helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

real budget wedding

I just LOVE this purple backyard wedding I have for you today! This couple planned their big day on a $10k budget, allocating nearly HALF their total budget to their wedding photographers, Two Sticks Studios, who did a phenomenal job capturing all the elements of their wedding day. I love when couples prioritize their budget and find ways to work around those larger ticket items. I just think it's fantastic! Plus, the details of this wedding are seriously great because you can tell so much about the couple's personality by their wedding details. Check out the pics below to see what I mean! Hope you love this backyard wedding as much as I do! xoxo Jessica

What was your wedding budget?

Total budget was initially 10,000. We stayed pretty close going over by about $200 dollars.

Photographer: $4,000
DJ: $2,000

Catering & Drinks: $2,000

Tents/Tables/Chairs/Linens: $2,000

Celebrant: $700

Flowers: $300
Invitations: $250

Decorations: $400

Favors: $350

How many guests did you have?

We had right around 95 guests.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

Our unity ceremony was a chemical reaction! That got some really great reactions out of our guests. Todd, the groom, homebrewed two different beers for the wedding. Todd & I both really love Mexican food, so to be able to have a Taco Bar for dinner was a lot of fun. It was a huge difference from the Italian or Polish staples that are normally served in that area at weddings.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

Designing and printing our invitations by hand was probably our biggest money saver. We also made most of our decorations by hand including the paper poms that we hung from the tent ceiling and bought our flowers in bulk and arranged them ourselves. Honestly, all the help and support our friends and family gave us truly helped so much!

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

To know that you can’t control everything and a little flexibility and compromise with small details will definitely save your sanity. Also know when to weigh the options between DIY and a vendor or pre-made item.  Initially, I had thought about trying to DJ our wedding with an iPod, we have an eclectic taste in music and I wanted this part of the reception to be perfect. In the end I was getting so nervous about the music, we went with a vendor instead and I have no regrets about that choice. The music was amazing all night!

What was your biggest splurge?

We spent the most on our photographers. Photography was important to us and we knew it would be the one thing we would have to remember our wedding. Two Sticks Studios was worth every penny and we couldn’t be happier with how they captured our day.

What was your favorite detail?

I know it isn’t exactly a detail but my favorite thing was that our wedding truly reflected us. It felt warm, laid back and full of love. All of our friends and family truly supported us and helped us achieve a wedding & reception that we will remember forever.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Our ceremony was pretty perfect. Our celebrant worked with us to create a custom ceremony that truly reflected us and our guest really enjoyed it and we still get comments about how warm and beautiful it was.

I love the groom’s shirt as well. Where did you get them? Also, that science experiment looks really neat, what were you reacting?
