How did you meet?

We sat next to each other in a typing class during high school. It was my freshman year and his junior. A few years after high school we met again and six months later we started a relationship.

What is your proposal story?

We own 55 acres in Solsberry, IN. Hunter asked me to meet him there after I got off work on December 4, 2017. When I pulled into the driveway I noticed that he was not there. So, I left and started heading home. I passed him on the road and he stopped me. He said he was running a little late and asked me to turn around and to still sit by a fire with him. So, I did. We were sitting by a fire and he asked me where I wanted to build our house in the future. I turned around and pointed in the general direction. When I turned back around to him, he was on his knee. He said, “If we are going to spend the rest of our lives together, right here, then we might as well officially start it right here. Corey May, will you be my wife and spend the rest of your life with me?” I, of course, said “YES” and covered my face and just started to cry. I was in complete shock. It was the most perfect moment of my life.

Tell us a little about your wedding vision.

We both love the country. We hunt, fish, and enjoy doing all things outside. So, it was obvious that a country-style wedding would fit us the best. We wanted to get married under a big tree with lights but we also wanted to have a big barn. Hunter works with the owners of Martins Barn on Knob Creek and we had attended this venue twice for their work parties. We always dreamed of getting married here but thought for sure the venue would be booked years in advance. When Hunter called to see if they had any dates available in September and they did, then we knew right away this venue was the place for us.

Tell us about your attire choices.

We did not want our wedding party to spend a lot of money on clothing for our wedding that they would not wear again. We ordered the girls’ dresses off a website. I was a little nervous about the quality of the dress. But, they turned out perfect. The girls said they were lightweight and very comfortable. On the plus side, they were only $40. The flower girls’ dresses came from Etsy. They were only $30. The guys’ clothing came from Kohls. The khaki pants and the button-up shirts are something they can wear again because they own the clothes. The suspenders and bow tie were ordered as well. The total for the guys’ clothing was $65.

What was most important to you two while planning? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

Everyone told us to spend our money on our photographer and our videographer. Hunter did not want a wedding video at first. He told me that pictures would be enough. But, now that the wedding is over and he has seen the wedding video, he said that was something he is glad we got. We can watch the video and look at the pictures and relive the day. Definitely, worth every penny to get a good photographer and splurge on a videographer.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Really the day goes by so quick so picking a favorite part is hard. But, I think the best part of the day was walking down the aisle and seeing each other. That is the biggest moment of the day and all the suspense leading up to it. We also enjoyed our first dance. It was a moment that felt like it was just the two of us. We got to hold each other and block everything else out for the first time!

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

My wedding flowers were so special. My bouquet had my dads deer antlers in them. I challenged Cindy to use real deer antlers and she did not disappoint. We put our centerpieces together and we love how they turned out as well.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Our wedding cake was a gift from my dad & stepmom. It came all the way from KY. It was a simple two-tier naked cake and we added the deer as our topper.

What did you do for favors?

We did wedding koozies with our names as a wedding favor. The kids got bubbles with a cute little saying on them. We loved walking around the reception and seeing everyone use their koozies. We ordered them from totallyweddingkoozies.com.

Please describe any handmade, DIY, or personal items.

  • The cupcakes were handmade by Hunters Aunt Tina. She even had the deer antlers 3-D printed!
  • The cookies and cake pops were made from co-workers of mine.
  • My veil was handmade by my Aunt Judy.
  • The food was all made by Hunter’s parents.
  • All of the wedding signs were made by Hunter’s mom. She does this for a living.
  • The “C” on the milk can was made by my sister / MOH.
  • My sister made me a hankie that had a C embordered and a blue heart from my grandma’s lace.
  • We had a memory table for our grandparents that have passed. The Colts jersey was Hunters Grandpas, the bear was my grandmas and the train was my grandpas.
  • We also had a birdcage with two doves hanging in the tree that we got married under. When my grandpa passed away all of the granddaughters got white doves.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

I wore my mother’s jewelry that she wore in her wedding and Hunter had his grandpa’s cross tied to his boutonniere.

One of our flower girls was my little sister. She is my cousin but my mother recently adopted her. She is so very special to Hunter & I and we wanted her to know that she will always be our little princess. So, on our wedding day, Hunter gave Raegan her very own princess ring. She was shocked at first but then she couldn’t wait to show it off to everyone!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

I would recommend getting a videographer! The day truly goes by so fast. The bride and groom really do not get to sit back and enjoy the day. So, I would also recommend to stand back for a second at the reception and just look around. Look at all of the people around and all of the little details that come together. Also, do not let anything or anyone ruin your big day. The week before my wedding I felt like it was all falling apart. But, honestly, NONE of that mattered on our wedding day. We had the most amazing wedding party and help. Our wedding day was perfect.
