BSWOW

Time to kick off 2011 with our first BSWOW of the year! This lovely Florida wedding was submitted via Two Bright Lights by Rosie Hernandez. I LOVE this bride’s gorgeous custom dress made my a family friend. She wore the lace bodice shirt for the ceremony and was able to remove it to wear the lovely strapless gown for the outdoor reception. She pulled off this wedding for around 100 people for $7,500! Hope you enjoy this edition of the BSWOW! :)

What was your budget?

Our budget was approx. $7,500.

Wedding Ceremony Venue: $200 (church donation)
Reception Venue: FREE (it was my husband’s parents house)
Photography: $800 (including engagements photos) this did not include any sort of album but I did get the rights to all 600 photos
DJ: $600.00 for 6 hours
Bagpipe Players: $350
Flowers: $150
Caterer: $2,500
Decorations: $250
Bride’s Dress and Accessories: FREE It was a gift…I was so very lucky and honored to have an INCREDIBLE designer and close family friend Ivonne de la Vega design and create my dress and her Maria Elena headpiece and accessories were my something borrowed.  Ivonne and her team made my day the most magical by making me feel like an absolute princess.  I was so lucky to be able to get the wedding dress of my DREAMS!
Hair & Make-up: $150
Groom’s Clothes: Free Tux (groom’s tuxedo was free with 5 other rentals) $150 on reception attire (Khaki Blazer, cubavera shirt and tommy bahama slacks)
Wedding Bands: $370 – Bride $300 (I actually found my wedding ring on clearance at JC Penney…every once in a while it’s a great idea to listen to mom!!! We found his ring on EBAY on a site called ring Ninja – it saved us approximately $300 for the ring he wanted)
Invitations: (incl. envelopes & postage) $120
Cake & Cupcake Favors: $250 (childhood friend makes DELICIOUS cakes so she was the first person I turned to and thought what better way to get her name out and allow my guests to take home a piece of my wedding then with a cupcake.  We bought solid boxes wrapped a ribbon around it and placed a monogram sticker on top)
Wedding Party Favors: $300 Groomsmen:  Cubavera Shirt (on sale at Macy’s) Bridesmaid:  Coach Wristlets (on sale at Coach Outlet)
Chair, Table & linen Rentals: $1000 (ended up getting a $100 refund due to issue with chairs)

How many guests did you have?

110 invited…90 actually came

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

Our Save the Date had the date written in the sand below the lifeguard tower where we got engaged; Daniel takes HUGE pride in his Irish heritage so we had Uillean Pipes (smaller version of the bagpipe); our ceremony was very simple and intimate.  We gave homemade cupcakes as wedding favors and simply enjoyed the entire day.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

Anything we could!  I had a friend who makes the most incredible wedding cakes; another friend offered to coordinate the day.  I did my research to find the most inexpensive vendors without compromising quality.  Flowers were simple Gerber Daisies they were beautiful.  All of the favors and centerpieces were DIY projects.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Always remember what the big day is really all about…don’t forget that no matter what happens that day or even the stressful events leading up to it the most important thing in you and your partner.  My husband  could tell when I was at my breaking point with stress and he would stop me make me take a deep breath and look at me and tell me “It’s just you and me” and he was right…then he would make me laugh till my sides hurt and nothing else mattered.

What was your biggest splurge?

Uilleann Pipes…we already paid for the organist but the additional cost of the Uilleann Pipes really made our ceremony special.  It was that unique touch that friends and family still talk about today.

What was your favorite detail?

The colors…our color scheme was yellow and white but we added beautiful oranges and reds with the Gerber Daisies.  It was such a cheerful addition that it brightened the decor and the tone of the event.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

I have 2…First, the moment I stepped into the church on my fathers arm and looked down the isle to see not only my future husband but also  all of my friends and family I took a quick moment before starting the walk down the isle to take that incredible feeling of love in and enjoyed every second of it.  The other is at the very end of the reception, almost everyone had already left and people had begun cleaning and packing up but the DJ  played the last song of the night, Darius Rucker History in the Making.  I really wanted him to play it at some point in the evening so when it came on I was standing next to my new brother-in-law so we started dancing.  My husband came out and took my hand walked me out to the dock and we danced as if there was no one else  in the world…it was magical!  I will never forget how I felt at that exact moment.

  1. that dress is amazing! i have been looking all over for a wedding dress with some sort of sleeves, and I am starting to think I have to take my search to Salt Lake City (which has a lot of wedding dress stores that cater to Latter Day Saints Brides. I'm not LDS or even very religious, just looking for a dress with sleeves!).

If I could find a dress like Danielle's, I would be in heavan!
