This wedding is all about the details!! LOVE the ‘love notes’ area where Whitney and Patrick’s guests could leave them little pieces of wisdom. LOVE the bouquets– so full and juicy! (Can a bouquet be juicy? I think so.) The sunny oranges, yellows and pinks… pure happy loveliness. And there was a dog there? Love. Wooden signs? Love. Cupcakes? Love. The best part about this wedding is that they pulled it off for only $12,500 with 200 guests!! What the what?! Awesome work! How many guests did you have?
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
I’m a anthopologie kind of girl, so I love DIY projects and repurposed vintage finds. Our center pieces were just a mason jars and fabric we found at Joanns along with old books we had from our families collections. One of my favorite pieces was an old door I found on the side of the road that we used for table assignments. Some people see junk, but I see possibilities.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
Find people who were just starting out in their field but were really talented was such a money saver! My wedding planner, Kara Dykert and Cynthia Perry, were just starting their business at the time, so we just paid travel expenses.Our videographer also was just starting out so we offered a price just to see and it worked out. Our florist was a family friend who we paid just a bit above the cost of the flowers. Asking your talented friends is also a great option. We had our cake and cupcakes made by friends and family. Its worth “taking a risk” on people who aren’t established yet.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Make sure you protect yourself the week before the wedding. What I mean by that is don’t save even small details till that week if possible. Its such an exciting time with friends and family coming from all over just for you two that the stress can keep you from taking it all in. We were scrambling making place cards, etc and I wish I’d done it sooner. I certainly would have slept better that week.
What was your biggest splurge?
Photography. Being a photographer myself, it was a priority. We really wanted our photographer even thought the pricing was beyond the percentage usually allocated in a wedding budget. But it was totally worth it for us! I love our pictures and look at them often. I cant wait to show them to our kids someday!
What was your favorite detail?
I love that Pat and I handmade each of our guest invitations and ceremony programs. We made them from scratch. After selecting the right paper, font, and ink stamp, we actually sewed the invitations with a sowing machine, leaving a little scrap of fabric at the top. It was a labor of love and I’m so glad we did. Plus it was a money saver.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
Oh my goodness, when I saw Pat at the end of the aisle. It was like everything disappeared, best moment ever.
