Hello all you budget savvy babes! My name is Maggie and I’m so happy to be taking you along on this crazy wedding planning roller coaster with me. First off, let me say that I’ve been reading this blog for over a year now (way before I got engaged), so it’s such an honor to be a part of it!
A little bit about me: I am 24 years old and live in Charleston, SC with my fiancé Matt and our two sassy puppies Addy and Harper. I work as an Account Development Rep for a company that makes software for non-profits. I’ve lived here for almost 2 years, but I was born, raised and educated in Tennessee. Go Vols! My fiancé Matt is 27 and is a Landscape Lighting Designer for a local landscape lighting company here in Charleston. He’s grown up in South Carolina and is a huge USC fan…boo. We met in October of 2009. I was interning for a resort in SC over the summer. After that ended, I didn’t want to go home to TN, so I got a part time job at Curves. Matt’s mom was my manager. She instantly thought we would be a perfect match and set us up. So our first date was watching the UT vs. USC game on Halloween. I knew if he could handle the butt stomping UT gave USC with class, then he was a keeper! We’ve been inseparable ever since.
Matt proposed in May of 2011 and I have never been so surprised in my entire life. Boys, make sure she really ISN’T expecting it. It’s so much better that way! He popped the Q over Memorial Day weekend at the lake in North Carolina in front of my whole family. The special part was not only that my entire family was there to watch, but also that he did it on my family’s dock where I spent many hours playing as a little girl. When I realized what he was asking me to be his wife, I immediately felt like an 8 year old girl being swept off her feet by prince charming. It was surreal. So mushy I know, but soooo true. It was magical! Even our sweet little babies got to be part of it

We started planning the wedding on the drive home that weekend. The first thing we did was set the date for April 2012. (6 months away from now, yikes!) We immediately knew we were going to have a bigger wedding of around 150-200 people, but we also knew we wouldn’t have a ton of funds to work with. We are paying for most all of it ourselves and are trying to keep it under $10,000. We’re throwing a southern fairy-tale wedding as I like to say. The ceremony and reception will take place at an old plantation house in Charleston. It will be eclectic, whimsical, vintage, and a ton of fun! Our goal is to have a very personal ceremony with all of our guests feelin’ the love and then to have an insanely fun, wild reception.
