Sometimes when it comes to planning a budget-savvy wedding, simple is perfect! Ashley and Josh created a beautiful NYC wedding in Central Park on a wedding of $8K. I love that they embraced the rainy weather and made the best of it, capturing some stunning images! Enjoy this sweet wedding! xoxo, Jessica

What was your budget?
Our budget was around $8000. We spent about 38% of that on our dinner venue (It was totally worth it!), 19% on our amazing photographer, 7% on flowers for the wedding party, 24% on the bride, bridesmaid and groom attire and the rest on our decorations, venue and officiant.
How many guests did you have?
We wanted a very small wedding and so we had 26 guests…a perfect number for us.
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
With the help of some of my amazing friends, we decorated our dinner venue with some crafts and lights which made it perfect for us.
We also had a personalised cake topper with Tony and Stephanie from Saturday night Fever (Josh and I met when we were performing opposite each other as the leads in the show).
We wrote our own vows, and our officiant helped guide us and allowed us to make changes so that our ceremony was very personal and perfect for us. It felt like she had known us for years…it was really lovely.
Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?
We made a “wish tree” where, instead of a guest book, people wrote their wishes for us on heart shaped tags and put them on our tree. It was so fun to look at them all after the wedding…we still have the tree sitting in out office!
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
My mum and dad were so amazing and really helped us to be able to afford a lot of it. Other than that, our main money saver was the venue! We got married at The Cop Cot in Central park and the permit for that was only $25. I always joked when I was younger that I wanted to get married in Central Park but I thought it would be so expensive! I also did my own makeup and my wonderful friend, who is a stylist in the city, did my hair 🙂
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Have the wedding that you want to have…but listen to your mum too! We had the perfect day because we did it just how we wanted it, but my mum definitely helped us with some details that I wouldn't have even thought of. It made it all so easy and we were able to just enjoy our day. Thanks mum!
What was your biggest splurge?
The biggest splurge was probably the venue at Freeman's, but my dad helped us with that (Thanks dad). For us, our biggest splurge was our photographer (which really wasn't so much of a splurge at all considering how amazing he was).
What was your favorite detail?
For me, it was my dad, brother and nephew all wearing the same tartan kilts. Its a huge tradition in Scotland to do that so it was great for me to carry that tradition over here. Our other favourite detail was our getting to have our photos taken in all of our favourite parts of NYC…it was so much fun and tourists kept stopping to take our picture!
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
The weather! It was absolutely freezing and pouring rain, but we laughed and smiled the whole way through it. Our photos are just amazing- everyone with their umbrellas and smiling in spite of the crazy weather. I think everyone will remember our day for that!
