helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

So… my post today is about the best day of my life- the day E popped the big question!! April 14th was like any other Monday- I spent most of the day mourning the fact that the weekend was over. Little did I know that E would be giving me a reason to love Mondays! I had been out of town the weekend prior so I was super eager to spend time with him after work. He had sent me a text during the day asking if he could take me out for a nice little date because he had missed me. Of course, I didn’t think anything of it, because he’s super sweet pretty much all of the time!

Let me preface the rest of the story with this backstory: E and I always have these playful arguments about who loves the other one more.

You know, the whole “I love you,” “Well, I love you more.” “No, I love YOU more.” Cheesy, I know. (Hey, at least we don’t do it in public or all over Facebook!)

Since I was pretty sure that we were on the path to get married one day, I would jokingly tell him to “prove it” when he would say he loved me more. (In a totally not psycho/pushy ring-hungry girlfriend way, of course!)

That Monday, I walked into my apartment after a long, busy day to find E standing in my living room with a dozen roses! I was completely surprised by this gesture, so I asked what the flowers were for. He replied, “Because I love you.” I told him how sweet he was, and that, of course, I loved him too! And then he said, “Well, I wanted to prove to you that I love you more!” In the meantime I was thinking, Well, flowers are nice but that doesn’t really prove anything…”

He handed me an envelope and told me to open it. Inside was a card with a note from him that said, “I want you to know that even though you say you love me a whole lot, I wanted to prove that I love you just a little bit more than you love me, and I always will. Love, E.” At the bottom of the card, there was a huge notary stamp, signed and sealed on the 14th day of April, 2008…  making his above statement official and legally binding!!! It was the cutest and sweetest and funniest and most wonderful thing I have ever seen!

I was giggling so much I was nearly crying. When I looked up, he said he had something he wanted to ask me. At this point, I pretty much knew what was coming!! All I could say was “Oh my God! Oh my God!” repeatedly!

He bent down on one knee, pulled out the box, opened it and paused– I just stood there repeating “Oh my God!” I couldn’t believe it was happening and I was in such shock that I couldn’t stop talking! After a moment I was like, “Well… are you gonna ask me?!” And he replied, “If you’ll stop talking!” Haha! It was so US!

So then, of course, he asked the big question and I said YES!! He put the ring on my finger and I cried, and giggled and hugged him so tight! He did an amazing job picking out my ring– it was just what I dreamed of and exactly the right size!

Of course I haven’t been able to stop looking at my ring and watching it sparkle- E even called me out for staring at it during church!! Guilty, as charged! :) It’s all so new and exciting and the proposal was everything I have hoped for. He even called and talked to my daddy to ask him for his permission, like a good southern boy should! I give him major props for doing it because that HAD to be scary! That evening, we went out to a nice dinner to celebrate, just the two of us! We spent the rest of the night calling our family and close friends to tell them the big news!

It’s been a little over 3 weeks since we got engaged, and we set the date for May 2, 2009. That gives us just under a year to get the wedding planned! It’s gonna be a rollercoaster but I’m super excited to start and share my experiences with all of you! Tips and advice appreciated, of course!
