Dear Jessica,

Do you have any tips for finding wedding accommodation deals? I’d like to be able to get group hotel discounts for our out-of-town guests and was wondering if you had any advice on that. Thanks!

Jeff

Wedding Accommodations: How to Get a Deal

Dear Jeff,

Thanks for your question! It’s so nice of you to be concerned with getting your guests a great deal on their wedding accommodations. Oftentimes couples are so concerned with what they are spending they tend to overlook being courteous to their out-of-town guests.

When it comes to booking wedding accommodations or hotel blocks – there are a few ways to get good deals or discounts. First, it’s a good idea to have a few different options of different price levels – everyone’s budget will be different and some of your guests might prefer staying in a more upscale hotel.

Usually, two options are fine- one being more budget-friendly than the other. I personally am of the mindset that I hate paying a bunch of money for a room that I spend pretty much zero time in. Call me cheap– I call it budget-savvy. Others are pickier about the type of accommodations they stay in and might be willing to fork out a little more cash.

Wedding accommodation deals will vary from hotel to hotel. Some hotels will offer your guests a certain percentage off the booking price when you reserve a certain number of rooms. Other hotels will charge their normal rates to your guests, but offer the bride and groom a free room for their wedding night as a bonus.

Some hotels will allow you to reserve a block of rooms in advance but won’t offer a discount at all. It’s up to you to do your due diligence – do some research and price compare- as any budget-savvy bride would! Your family and friends will surely appreciate you making it easier for them to arrange their travel and accommodation plans.

Also, don’t be afraid to negotiate... tell them another hotel offered you a better price and they might come down or meet you in the middle. You never know and it never hurts to ask.

groupon

On the flip side, if you’re a guest looking for a hotel for a wedding weekend, one of the best places to look for wedding accommodation deals is Groupon. Yes, that Groupon! Especially if your wedding is in a major city, you can get a great deal on a hotel stay with the help of the local deal website.

hotel tonight

Another great option for wedding hotel deals, especially if you’re a guest or a bridesmaid– Hotel Tonight — this app shares rooms for hotels that are underbooked for that night and gives you an amazing price on the room! I used this in Vegas for a conference and got a hotel room for $45 for the night– BONUS: you get $25 off your first booking with code JBISHOP70! They’ll throw a credit my way, too for sharing the app with you – win, win!

Be aware of discounts that hotels will offer – many hotels offer discounts on rooms for AAA members, Military service members, etc. Of course, you can always check out Expedia or Orbitz as well. 🙂

Hope that helps!! Thanks for your question!
