helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

Destination Weddings

One of the unexpected and exciting perks of my work here at The Budget Savvy Bride has been reporting on destination weddings and honeymoon locations. Several times a year, I receive invitations to attend press trips to get a feel for different regions and countries. I love experiencing and exploring what each destination has to offer to brides and grooms who are planning a destination wedding or honeymoon!

This summer, I was thrilled to visit Nassau Paradise Island, Bahamas on an exploratory trip of the area. I was blown away by both the plethora of options and the beauty of the region. In this post, I'll share some info on the venues we visited in hopes that it gives you some ideas for your own destination wedding. As with everything, we hope you'll do your due diligence and thoroughly research all your options before you book. We've included links to our affiliate partner, Trip Advisor where you can read first-hand reviews from guests who've stayed and celebrated at each of the properties.

Atlantis Paradise Island Resort

If you're looking for a resort that has basically everything, Atlantis Paradise Island Resort might be a fit for you. Atlantis is a huge property, stretching over 171 acres and almost three miles of beachfront. The property features many activities and attractions, other than the beautiful beaches. There is an open-air marine habitat as well as a water park, golf course, casino, and more. That's not even mentioning the 11 pools! With over 21 restaurants and 19 bars / lounges, plus the hot-spot Aura nightclub, there are a variety of options for eating and drinking to your heart's content! All of this in one unique property, so you never have to leave your resort to have all sorts of fun and adventures!

Royal Towers at Atlantis

I had the pleasure of staying at The Cove, one of the many different hotel options on the property. If you're honeymooning at Atlantis, I'd definitely recommend staying at The Cove, as this ultra-chic and sophisticated portion of the property features an exclusive adults-only pool and beach club. The privacy and upscale atmosphere are definitely something that honeymooners would love.

The Cove at Atlantis Paradise Island

The resort has several different locations that would be beautiful for weddings, whether you want to get married on the beach or under a gazebo. My personal favorite was a secluded beach chapel with expansive windows that look out onto the ocean. This venue is chic and neutral enough that it could easily be transformed no matter what your wedding theme. And there's plenty of space just outside the chapel to have cocktails or dancing after the ceremony. Basically, I'm dying to attend a wedding here so someone please plan one and invite me, okay?

Chapel at Atlantis

Overall, I loved staying at Atlantis and there is so much to do there. They also have wonderful specials for honeymoons and weddings so be sure to visit the Atlantis website for more information. Check out the Trip Advisor reviews on the Atlantis property here.

Budget savvy tip: You can book your stay at the nearby Comfort Inn and Suites and get free access to the pools, waterslides, and activities at Atlantis! (Basically everything except the Cove / Cain) This can be a more affordable option especially for your guests who are traveling for your wedding day.

One&Only Ocean Club

If you're looking for a luxurious location for your destination wedding or honeymoon, you may just fall in love with One&Only Ocean Club. I know I sure did! It was a welcome contrast to the high-action of Atlantis, in that it was incredibly serene and peaceful. One of the things I noticed about this property right away was the impeccable landscaping. The lawns were perfectly manicured and will make for amazing wedding photos! Choose from gorgeous garden venues or the white sand beachfront for your wedding ceremony.

One&Only has indulgences of every kind to delight your senses. Enjoy the incredible spa and state of the art gym on the property that aren't to be missed. Whether you're having your wedding or honeymoon here, you can dine at Dune by famous chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. If you're looking for something that is posh and private, One&Only is the place for you.

One of the most distinctive parts of the property are the gorgeous 12th Century Cloisters that overlook the Versaille-inspired gardens. They will truly take your breath away! You can request a wedding proposal from the One&Only website. Check out the Trip Advisor reviews on One&Only Ocean Club here.

Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant

If you're looking for a destination wedding or honeymoon location that is rich with history and unique experiences, then Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant may be the place for you. From their expansive wine cellar to their remarkable chocolate and cigar factories, Graycliff is a historic landmark that is sure to surprise and delight both you and your guests.

Graycliff Hotel

Their wine collection consists of over $2 million worth of wine, with single bottles worth over $200,000 each! It was quite a sight to see. Rumor has it that Jay-Z and Beyoncé got engaged in the wine cellar at Graycliff, where a private dining room exists for the most exclusive of parties. Definitely not so budget savvy but it was definitely a thrill to see! One of my most favorite parts of this property was the pool area. I absolutely loved the mosaic design at the bottom of the pool, and it makes such a stunning backdrop for wedding photos. According to the staff at Graycliff, some couples have put acrylic bridges over the pool so they can utilize the space for their ceremony and reception. I can only imagine how magical that would be!

Graycliff Pool

Graycliff is known for being a bit on the luxurious side of things, but I definitely recommend making a stop at this property for a nice dinner or a day visit to the Chocolate Factory or Cigar Factory. Graycliff's on-site factories offer many different types of tours and experiences that are so unique and memorable. Spend a day with your new spouse on your honeymoon learning how to roll your own cigars, or take a tour of the chocolate factory complete with a chocolate and spirits tasting!

Graycliff Chocolate Factory

Graycliff is located a bit inland in Nassau, making it a great option for a couple who wants a destination wedding but not necessarily a beachfront location. The property has a variety of wedding locations to choose from to plan their perfect day. Check out the Trip Advisor reviews on the Graycliff here.

British Colonial Hilton

The British Colonial Hilton is a staple in the area, as it's been around since the early 1900's. It is a beachfront property, so you'll have the choice between saying “I Do” with the sand beneath your toes or you can opt to have your celebration in one of their grand ballrooms. If I'm being honest though, I don't know why you'd want to go all the way to the beautiful Bahamas to get married in a ballroom, amiright?

I'd definitely recommend choosing one of their garden or beach options for your celebrations. This hotel tends to be very popular for business types during the week, which works in your favor. The weekend rates and offerings for weddings are generally a better deal than some of the more upscale resorts, as a result. Plus, working with a trusted brand like Hilton can give you some extra reassurance when dealing with foreign properties. You could opt to have your wedding celebrations here and then jet off to another island to enjoy a relaxing honeymoon!

Melia Nassau Beach

When it comes to vacationing and truly relaxing, more often than not I'd suggest going all-inclusive. There's nothing better than not having to stress over how much you're spending along the way! Choosing an all-inclusive resort makes budgeting easier since you'll pay a flat rate for your entire stay. That's helpful for not only your budget, but your guests' as well.

We had the opportunity to tour the fabulous Melia Nassau Beach all-inclusive property and I absolutely loved it. From their various wedding locations to the multiple dining options, the Melia had something to suit every style or taste!

Melia Nassau Beach

My personal favorite was the gazebo on the property. It would be so romantic for an intimate destination wedding ceremony or reception. I just loved the luncheon that we experienced there — they did such a lovely job with the all-white color scheme. Talk about gorgeous! They even have a huge list of preferred vendor recommendations to make planning your big day a breeze. The staff at Melia really can help you with every detail!

This all-inclusive resort also has plenty of activities like paddle-boarding, kayaks, aqua cycles and more. Get a little adventurous on your honeymoon! The range of activities is also great for any guests who decide to extend their trip. Check out the Trip Advisor reviews on this property here.

That pretty much sums up my trip to Nassau Paradise Island! I hope this has given you a little more insight into this gorgeous area. Consider the Bahamas for your destination wedding and / or honeymoon!
