What are your Valentine's Day plans? | The Budget Savvy Bride
The Budget Savvy Bride

So the big Hallmark holiday is coming up this weekend and I’m curious to know… what are your plans?

E & I aren’t huge V-day celebrators. Perhaps this comes from the fact that our dating anniversary is Feb. 11… we always combined the two together, so as not to go insane and completely broke coming up with gift ideas. In fact, the arc from Christmas to Valentine’s Day included my birthday and our anniversary so that was 4 different gift-needing events in the span of a couple of months. He lovingly referred to this time of the year as ‘The Gauntlet.’ So sweet, right? :)

Last year, E surprised me with a home cooked Lobster dinner! Um yeah, that’s right. I married the most wonderful man on the planet. And doing it at home not only saved alot of money, but also allowed E to communicate in his love language, acts of service. :) He loves cooking for me.

This year, we will most likely do something similar. Have a delicious homecooked meal and enjoy a Redbox movie. And ya know what, I happen to think it’s even more romantic than going out to some expensive restaurant and sitting in a crowded movie theater with 100s of other couples. We don’t have to worry about tacky PDA. haha

I think I might attempt to make a tasty dessert for the occasion, since E is not much of a baker. Thinking about attempting some of Bakerella’s Cake Balls (like her Cake Pops but not on a stick!) And making them extra cute and Valentine’sy. :)

  1. Our anniversary is February 11, too! We're packing a picnic on Friday or Saturday and heading to Arrington Vineyards and we'll probably throw in a relaxing brunch (with mimosas!) over the weekend at some point. :)

Sidenote: I have a great friend who makes those red velvet cake balls every year for her NYE parties and they are the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Highly recommend!!

  2. I made those cake balls for Christmas this year, and they came out great and were pretty easy, but here in the Northeast it's hard to find boxed RV Cake Mix, so I used Paula Deen's recipe and, while a delicious cake, it was too moist for the recipe and the texture was kind of mushy to me. No one else seemed to mind, though!

I'm not sure what we're doing for Valentine's Day. Last year we went to a monster truck rally, and I'm not sure we can top that, ha.

  3. Sounds like a nice Valentine's Day! We don't have any fancy plans either. I am making him take me to see the new movie Valentine's Day (I am a sucker for chick flicks lol) and maybe brunch on Sunday? I may need to make those cake balls, yum!

My Fiance refers the time from Christmas to April as the Gauntlet too! I guess its a man thing! The cake balls look very yummy! Good Luck!

  4. Valetine's Day is my favorite holiday so we always do something a little extra special than a typcial date night. Except for this year since we're saving for a wedding, we're making a romantic carribbean themed dinner at my place, and making dessert together. :) I made those red velvet balls and they were amazing :)
