Our budget was $10,000. We spent about $9,500, including tips, not including honeymoon.

How many guests did you have?
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
Because of our names, we thought it would be fun to have a Garden of Eden theme. Our cake topper was sculpted to look like us as Adam & Eve, or “Adan y Eva” in Spanish. Our wishing tree/guest book was the Tree of Knowledge. Our centerpieces were also trees. Our favors were apples. Before cutting our cake we bit “the apple”; I went first of course. Adam made our card box and cake pedestal out of cedar that we found. Our table names were personal photos that we used for a customized Loteria, like a Mexican Bingo game, that we played at our shower; I love that it tied together our interests, personalities, culture, and theme. I designed our invitations to match our theme and had them printed online. I fell in love with pom poms during my research. We made tissue paper pom poms for the church and yarn pom poms for the reception, so cute and fun! As accessories, I used my late grandmother’s brooch on my fascinator and my other late grandmother’s necklace as a bracelet.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
We probably saved the most on our DIY flowers for the wedding party and our parents. But because everything adds up quickly, we tried to save wherever possible. I did a ton of internet research and found our affordable, flexible venue and awesome photographer online. In order to afford our dream wedding food, we asked to have it prepared for pick up and hired our own buffet servers; this allowed us to still have amazing food and stay within budget. Thank goodness for Downtown L.A.; we found SO many great deals. And double thank goodness for the help of our family and friends. To name a few, my cousin sang while Adam’s friend played acoustic guitar for the communion song and our first dance. My mom and aunt made the tablecloths from the fabric that we bought in downtown. We had two craft days where family and friends helped us with DIY crafts. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help!
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Enjoy your day! Don’t worry about the little things that go wrong; they will only make your day more memorable.
What was your biggest splurge?
My dress: I made the mistake of trying on a dress over my budget and fell in love with it. It fit me perfectly and was the last one, so I had to decide fast.
What was your favorite detail?
Probably our cake topper.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
It’s a tie. At the end of the ceremony, we waited and waited for our recessional song, but our friend was having trouble with the ipod. It was a long pause and everyone was wondering why we weren’t exiting. We all laughed and eventually walked out to a different song. Also, our friends not only decorated our car to match our theme, but actually got all of our guests to write a little message on leaf-shaped cards while we took pictures after the ceremony and hung them from our car.
