lily and bluebell bouquet

Josh and Anna created an absolutely lovely wedding incorporating beautiful blue details throughout their day, from bluebells into bouquets to gorgeous shoes to a dramatic cake! They kept their budget slim by searching for a venue that fit their needs and was only 10% of their total budget. And how beautiful is Anna’s wedding look? I love her bluebell crown. Enjoy this gorgeous blue and gold wedding! xoxo, Jessica

How many guests did you have?

We had 150 guests.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

My mother-in-law ordered a lightsaber cake cutter for my husband to use. My shoes and hair flowers were blue.  One of my bridesmaids and one of the groomsman played guitar and violin for the ceremony music.

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

We made our own centerpieces by keeping our wine bottles and spray painting them gold. My husband’s company also designed our invitations.  Mother in law made the ceremony decorations, including the arch and bench bows.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We found a very inexpensive venue, it was only 10% of our budget instead of the 50% I see on bridal budget breakdowns!

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Do not use friends that aren’t professionals in the field you’re using them for. Our photographer was a friend who has won awards. Our caterer was a friend who has won awards. They were kind and extra helpful, but still professionals who did things on the deadlines they promised to do them in.

What was your biggest splurge?

My dress! I thought I would find something cheaper, but once you have the dress, there is no going back.

What was your favorite detail?

My blue shoes and hair flowers! They were just so “me”!

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

We played a game after dinner was served, where my groom and I sat back to back with one of his shoes and one of my shoes in each hand. My maid-of-honor asked us questions like “Who said ‘I love you’ first?” and “Who calls their mother more often?” where we raised the shoe of the person we thought answered the question. Our answers cracked up all of our guests, but especially the question “Who does the grocery shopping?” where we both slowly raised both shoes!
