Where do I start with this wedding? Chelsea and Brendan created a gorgeous summer wedding. I love the combination of yellow and red. The sunflowers pair perfectly with the red bridesmaid dresses. And how lovely are the wildflower centerpieces? The sunflower cupcakes are darling and the simple cutting cake adorned with the fresh sunflowers is  perfect!  Enjoy this colorful wildflower wedding! xoxo, Jessica

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We purchased our flowers from a local Mennonite woman who is extremely gifted in flower arrangements. She had created the arrangements for my husband’s grandmother’s funeral and a few other weddings in the area I’d been to.

My mother-in-law and I purchased most of the decorations and designed the table décor ourselves. It included a burlap table runner, a round mirror in the center with the flower arrangement in the middle and votive candles as well as sea glass surrounding the flowers.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We did not hire a wedding consultant or planner. Instead I used internet resources like Pinterest and theknot.com to research ideas and create a plan as to how to get everything prepared that needs to be for a wedding. We also saved money by using our own property and friend’s property for the wedding and reception venues.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Keep up with a timeline. Planning ahead and prioritizing what needs to be done when can save a lot of time and needless worrying. Also, don’t sweat the small stuff. Something is going to go awry your big day, but not no matter what happens, your day will be amazing!

What was your biggest splurge?

The thing that cost the most was obviously the caterer and all the rentals. Because our wedding was on private property, we had to rent chairs for the ceremony location. Our reception was close but we also had to rent chairs and of course tables for the reception area. Our biggest splurge besides the obvious caterer was our photographer. I did not want to go cheap on the food (because I love food and always remember what the food was like at weddings…) and because I wanted pictures I would love looking at. Pictures are wonderful glimpses of our memories and I knew that was something I would spend on as much as I needed to.

What was your favorite detail?

I am a HUGE fan of sunflowers, so I asked our florist to put as many happy bright-looking flowers together in each arrangement as long as there was at least one sunflower in each of them. All the flower arrangements had sunflowers in them and nothing can make me happier than being surrounded by that beauty.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

The most memorable moment for me happened after the reception was over. All our wedding party and friends were headed to the after-party, but we snuck off and drove to the top of the hill just to look at the breath-taking view of the lake and relish the moment. We were finally married!
