Hello, everyone! I am Krysta, and a new bride blogger for BSB, so I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all!

I am 27 and love crafts, holidays, my pets, bubble baths, books, movies, my job, travel, all things Disney, and oh, yes, my fiancé of course! I am a junior high Language Arts teacher in a small town in southern Alberta, Canada. (That’s right, north of the border!) Now, when I say I teach in a small town, I mean a REALLY small town. Some people drive by it and are not totally sure they went past a town. Not even exaggerating with that one, but I totally love it! And when I say Language Arts teacher, I means mainly; I also teach junior high drama, home ec, and a little social. I guess you could say I like the creative subjects. I live in Lethbridge, which is a little less than an hour away. I am originally from a small town (but not as small as where I teach) a few hours north. I moved to Lethbridge the summer of 2003, between high school and university, and it was in university (first class, first semester actually) that I saw this really tall, quiet, cute guy.

Tall guy turned out to be Brandon, who turned out to be my best friend and now fiancé! Brandon is also 27 (exactly one week younger than me, actually), and he is finishing up his university degree in accounting within a month or so. He’s really funny, and a pretty smart fella, and he sure comes in handy when you have a computer, pop culture, or math question, or if you want to know, well, pretty much anything. In the summer of 2011, Brandon and I took a trip to Mexico, and one night while we were there we took a walk on the beach after supper, up to a little cliff overlooking the ocean, and right at sunset, with the video camera rolling, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Yup, he did a good job! Of course I said yes. (Well, actually, I said “Oh my god! Are you serious?!” Like three times. Then I think I mumbled out a yes.)

Since Brandon and I have been together for so long, we had talked previously about what kind of wedding we would have. We tossed around ideas for a while, and then we somehow started talking about the idea of a destination wedding. The more we talked about it, the more we felt that it was the right decision for us. Did the idea meet with overwhelming excitement and anticipation from every single person? Of course not. But we also have a lot of support in our lives, and we are so happy to see our wedding taking shape. So we will be saying our “I do’s” on a beach exactly two years to the day after I said “Yes”, on July 18, 2013.

Brandon is a pretty involved groom; well, as much as most grooms are, I think. He definitely has opinions about some things, but others, not so much. So he definitely has input in wedding-planning. I am an extremely involved bride. If I could do every single thing myself, I would. Not because I don’t trust others to do it; I just really enjoy doing it myself… and saving money. Turns out, though, I can’t do everything. I do, however, have a very extensive list of DIY’s for both our destination wedding and an at-home reception we are having about a month after our return. Remember that small town I was mentioning earlier? That is where that reception will take place, and that has its own set of challenges and anticipations. All of this, destination wedding (complete with two weeks away) and at-home reception, we are hoping and planning to do for less than $15,000! (More specific budget breakdown to follow!) Crazy? Maybe. Challenging? For sure. Possible? Absolutely! I will definitely be stretching my DIY muscles!

I hope I can help other brides out there, destination or not. I am so excited to share with you all as I continue on this planning journey!
