►ABOUT THE STONE:
Uruguayan Amethyst is a rare, plum purple gemstone from Artigas in northern Uruguay. Uruguayan Amethyst is darker than most of what is sourced in Brazil and is coveted for its spectacular beauty and is highly valued for its rich color.
Going sober? According to the internet that knows all things, the Greek word "amethystos" may be translated as "not drunken," from Greek a-, "not" + methustos, "intoxicated". Amethyst was considered to be a strong antidote against drunkenness, which is why wine goblets were often carved from it back in the day.
►ABOUT THE CRAFTSMANSHIP:
NEW! I use traditional, time-honored lapidary techniques to drill into the stones in order to sink the lapel pin hardware deep into the stone's surface, so your jewelry will not come apart. This time-consuming process is done in addition to the adhesive and resin layers that attach the stones to the metal lapel pin hardware. Most crafters skip this most important drilling (and resin) step.
►NEED MORE?
Got a super special occasion? Fathers of the bride, grooms and groomsmen? If only one is shown as available, more similar stones can usually be sourced (or I already have a huge stash) and I can make plenty more for your entire wedding party!
►ABOUT THE MAKER:
Each tie tack, lapel pin, tie bar and pair of cufflinks is unique and one of a kind, and made by hand by printmaker, metalworking artist and Cyberoptix founder, Bethany Shorb. I work between Detroit, MI and a mini-studio RV in Arizona, where I source all our stone, crystal, shell and fossil specimens there and at the Tucson and Quartzsite AZ gem shows. All are intuitively sourced in person, from only the most reputable individual suppliers.
