helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

So as of today, I have been married for 327 days… nearly 11 months. I can't believe it's been nearly a year since our wedding day, but that's not really the reason for this post…

This post is about the dirty little secret that is hidden in my closet…

Hanging in the same position, for nearly 11 months…

Hanging… dirty… for nearly 11 months…

*cue shocking music*

dirty little secret

That's right ladies. My dirty wedding dress is still hanging, uncleaned, unpressed, unsteamed… on some WIRE HANGERS in my closet. Oh the humanity!

I would say “don't judge me,” but you totally should. Sure, life is busy even after the wedding… but not so busy that I couldn't drop the dress at the drycleaners at some point within the last 327 days.

This situation must be rectified. Now that you all know, I can finally be pushed to do something about it. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest…. and don't let this happen to you. Because I have a feeling it's going to cost me double what it would have to get it done all those months ago…

Clean that gown, girl!!! It's a beautiful dress, and if you don't want to pay for preservation, then they to resell it on a second hand wedding gown shop! Silly Jess!

  • Ooh shocking! Don't worry, I have a bridesmaid dress that I never laundered and it's been 2 years! (not the same as a wedding dress, I know) Airing your "dirty laundry" publicly sure does provide motivation though! Love your blog by the way!

    • Oh my! That makes me not feel so bad then!

thank you for your kind words about the blog! 🙂

I'm guilty too. Though, mine is on it's original hanger and in the bag. Nonetheless, it has been 10 months and I have not taken care of this important detail. Maybe you getting yours cleaned will motivate me!!

  • girl – my wedding dress is still at my parents house in my gown bag! don't you worry I'm right there with you 🙂 I at least need to bring it to MY house!

  • I am guilty too… and I am going on a year and a half of not cleaning my dress! I'm thinking at this point just picking a photographer and doing a trash the dress session with it this summer.

im am guitly of the same thing, but mine has only been about 6 months. buuuuuut, there is red wine on it. eeeeek! i hope they can get it out!

  • you all have made me feel so much better! I guess I'm not a horrible bride! haha

Ha! You made ME feel better. My goal was to get it done by the 6-month mark…I heard that after that stains might be harder to get out! Eep! I got it done with maybe 2 days to spare? I had never taken anything to the dry cleaners before (is that weird?) so maybe that is why I felt intimidated by the process. Well, it was super easy and took all of 15 minutes for me to drive to the cleaners, drop it off, and drive home. And that's what I kept putting off for 6 months!? My dress came back looking brand new! So exciting! Get it done, you'll be happy you did!
Now the hard part is figuring out where to store the huge box!

  • I am three months in and still haven't cleaned my dress – you have made me feel much better!
