We had a lovely engagement session (or actually two, due to technical difficulties/wind) with Valerie Henderson of Henderson Photography in Hendersonville, TN. We wanted some unique photos that reflected the theme/vibe of our wedding, but we also wanted some more traditional shots as well. We chose Percy Warner Park, the Shelby Street pedestrian bridge, and the World Famous Station Inn (dear to our hearts) in Nashville. We did choose more sites than a lot of couples do to feel like we had more a variety. I would ALWAYS plan on giving yourself extra time. Traffic, working with a dog (challenging), and the wind all took more time than we had anticipated, but Valerie got the job done regardless. She was amazing to work with, her rates were extremely affordable, she gave great direction as to how to pose/act (which we needed)– We had a wonderful experience and got some shots that we’re happy with!
In our case, our wedding photographers are coming from out-of-town, so we needed someone local for our engagement photos. I had known Valerie from college, and she had shot a friend’s wedding in September. We were fortunate to find someone that we were comfortable with, and also knew up-front that she would be good with both giving and taking direction if we had any ideas/suggestions. Think outside of the box and reflect your personality! For us, this included pictures in a bar/music venue and with our perfect pooch, Conway.
