What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We did almost everything ourselves with the help of friends and family. From cutting down the log centerpieces and drilling them out, to arranging the dried flowers, to building the dance floor, arbor, stage, to hand painting all of the signs and much more. I handmade my brooch bouquet. My bridal crew & family made all of the Blackberry Jam favors. The list goes on and on!
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
Our venue was the biggest money saver throughout the whole planning process. We searched for many different barn venues in our area, but this was my favorite. My father’s friend was generous enough to let us completely reform his barn and pasture for FREE! We couldn’t have been more thankful.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Wedding planning is a lot of work, no doubt. I would suggest adding the little details that you think people may not notice. People DO notice! Doing a lot of the work yourself will save thousands of dollars! However, the most important thing to remember is that above all of the planning, you are getting MARRIED! Don’t sweat the things that get done because no matter what happens the day of your wedding, you will be the happiest couple on earth that day!
What was your biggest splurge?
My dress was my biggest splurge. I went into the planning process thinking about spending maybe $500. When I went dress shopping I tried my hardest to not even look towards the more expensive dresses. I even though of ordering my dress online!!! However, being comfortable and feeling good was the best decision I could have made. I enjoyed every second of the dress shopping process with my mom. (we took an entire weekend getaway!). Those were memories I cherish.
What was your favorite detail?
It is really hard to choose one detail. I’ll choose three:
I absolutely adored the way my brooch bouquet turned out. I included photos of Taylor & I’s grandfathers as well as a brooch from Taylor’s great great Grandmother.
I also loved my surprise jewelry. My grandmother had her wedding band set turned into a necklace and earrings. This was a HUGE surprise and so so meaningful.
Lastly, I enjoyed the laid back theme of our wedding. This isn’t so much a tangible detail, but something I felt made people comfortable. It lightened the mood and gave people the freedom to dance and have fun. This seemed to make the whole day more enjoyable.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
Being announced as husband and wife for the first time after our vows was the most memorable moment for me. It was such a HUGE relief knowing that we FINALLY made it and that we were husband and wife! It’s hard to know the feeling until you have experienced it, but the joy is overwhelming.
