helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

Can I just say WOW! and Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! to each and every person who filled out my reader surveys.

Now, I know the type of traffic this blog gets… and I know that I don't tend to get alot of comments very regularly. Seems like they have dwindled off lately for some reason… but give people the anonymous chance to say what they feel and BAM! I got PARAGRAPHS and PARAGRAPHS of input and ideas from many of you. Just wow!

I sincerely appreciate those who took the time to write me their sincere thoughts. I was so overwhelmed by some of the responses. The survey will stay open until Friday evening and then I will close it in case I had people who missed it earlier in the week.

I won't share all the individual written out responses, but I will share some interesting thoughts.

I got a few comments about how people don't want so many giveaways. Really? You don't want the chance to win free stuff? This blows my mind, LOL. I've always liked hosting giveaways to give my readers the chance to win something free. If you've read my blog then you know that I won quite a few things in the course of my planning that helped me save on my big day. And who doesn't like free stuff?

On the other hand, I tend to only post once per day, which means that if there's a giveaway post, there's nothing else up to read on that day. In that respect I can understand your frustration. I will try to post something of substance and meaning as well on a day when I host a giveaway from now on. πŸ™‚ But like I said I really like hosting giveaways because it helps me give back to you- my readers! I've never accepted compensation for a giveaway so I literally get nothing out of it, other than the feeling of ‘paying it forward' to you!

As for the original reasoning behind having the survey, me thinking it's time to take myself out of the blog. I don't want you to think I'm turning into some corporation or whatever. I write the way I write, and my posts will still be my voice and my opinions and all that. I just see how confusing it is for new brides that come here for inspiration to not find it on my front page.

However, I got SO many comments of people saying they like hearing about life beyond the big day- and that they have made the transition from bride to wife with me, and I don't want to turn my longtime readers away. So here's what I'm thinking, it will take some time for me to code it this way, but I think I will basically have 2 blogs within this URL- one for weddings and one with home, lifestyle, newlywed life, etc. Many of the responses to the survey suggested this and referenced Pioneer Woman or Elizabeth Anne Designs as similar ideas. It might take me some time to get it going and figure out the coding- I'm still messing around with the current site. So until then it'll be all together but eventually it will have it's own place within the blog, separate from the weddings. πŸ™‚ So those of you who care to hear about my little life can continue to follow our journey and those who don't won't be forced to endure it! LOL

I had quite a few people mention that maybe I should have some current budget brides do a feature every so often. I'm totally open to this! If you are planning a wedding with a small budget, feel free to contact me about doing a guest post! You can write about how you're planning to save money or share a DIY project. I'm totally happy to hear anything you feel would help other brides like us! πŸ™‚

Again I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to let me know your thoughts. I just want to make this blog the best it can be, and still be able to help brides who are planning their big day.

Hi there, I've been reading for about 5 months (since I got engaged), and I'll be sure to go do the survey, but before that maybe I can explain the giveaways remark from the reader's perspective. I think you're totally right that we miss the substance on giveaway days, but I can also understand how you like to help people out. A problem I see in the giveaways is that they can be a little too specific. For example, I just glanced that the post prior to this one and it's a photography giveaway, which is a GREAT giveaway, don't get me wrong. But I've already booked my photography. And I don't live in New York. Perhaps you could throw in more generic ones as well, like free stuff from all those wedding sites with the cool favors, maids gifts, etc. And the winner can have the option of what she wants to use it for. That would definitely motivate me to participate. Just my two cents…
I love your blog! Keep doing what you're doing!!

PS. I also appreciate that your blog isn't overburdened with sponsors and craziness on the side panels. So it doesn't take forever to load.

I did not mention before that giveaways irked me, however very seldom do they apply to me. Oftentimes the photographer is located far, far away from me. They say they will travel to you, but only if I paid for it. In each case it would not be fiscally prudent. Just a thought…

  • I love reading about your life. Glad you're keeping that part.

And hearing about it in person is even better!! πŸ™‚
