What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

I did pretty much all the décor myself.

As far as personal touches, we included photos of marriages that inspired us, his grandparents, my grandparents, and parents. I also wore my great-grandmother’s pearls as a bracelet and my mother’s wedding veil.

My husband’s grandfather passed away about a month before our wedding, so he wore one of his ties to make him a part of our ceremony.

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

I made wreaths for the doors and for the arbor and did setups in the lanterns and the centerpieces.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

I knew my wedding date a year ahead of time, so I bought fall décor on clearance.

I made décor myself and cut out things that were not important to us, like favors and a DJ.

I also bought my husband’s suit, rather than renting a tux.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Don’t sweat the small stuff, and focus on your top wedding priorities. Don’t waste money on things that aren’t important to you. To me, my dress and our photographer were two of the most important things.

What was your biggest splurge?

I am a photographer, so I was able to post in a women’s photography group I’m in and find an AMAZING photographer who was decently priced. Her work was awesome, and her personality meshed really well with us and the ideas we had for the wedding. At the end of the day, those photos are all you are going to have left. Don’t skimp on photography.

What was your favorite detail?

My dad has a weird skill carving amazing pumpkins, so he made us a pumpkin with our initial and beautiful leaves.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Our first look, and him seeing me for the first time.
