How many guests did you have?

We had 171 guests attend our wedding.

How did you meet?

High school marching band!

What is your proposal story?

Tyler proposed to Nicole in Gatlinburg surrounded by their closest friends and beautiful mountains.

Tell us about your wedding vision.

We wanted our wedding to be memorable and fun for everyone invited. We had our local pour your own candle company as our favor. We had s’mores next to the fire, a cigar bar, a photo booth with many props, and of course a DJ that helped keep the party going.

Our location was a country setting with lots of areas for people to talk and enjoy their evening. We love the sunshine and sunflowers fit that perfectly.

Tell us about your attire choices.

We wanted the flowers to pop against the bridesmaid’s dresses and the groomsmen’s shirts. The girls wore a dark maroon. While the groomsmen wore khaki pants and white shirts, with of course, a bowtie. Tyler is very casual and a suit is not his style. So it only made sense to go with something simple and comfortable.

Nicole’s wedding dress was full of lace, with a beautiful train that carried behind her as she walked down the aisle.

What was most important to you two? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

The most important thing to us while planning was that everyone had fun. We splurged on our “activities” throughout the wedding. It was well worth it. We love hearing people say how much they love burning their candles. Our bar service was easily available for guests outside, indoors, and while at the fire pit.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

We enjoyed the entire day. We frequently reflect on how amazing our day was and we are so thankful for the memories we share. One thing we always say was our most memorable part of the day was our first look. We read notes to one another and experienced a really emotional and happy moment together. It was a real reminder that we were going to turn a chapter in our book with one another and we were ready to step into this path together.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

We used a local florist in our area. This florist is one of the kindest souls you ever will meet. She gets her flowers from local farms and stores. She puts the flowers together creating each individual beautiful piece.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Nicole is Gluten Free and Tyler does not like cake. So we chose to go with a Gluten-Free local bakery to make the wedding cake, and Tyler got to choose pies for the guests to eat.

What did you do for favors?

Our favors were our local pour your own candle shop. Each guest would go up to the table and smell different scents and mix the ones they liked together creating their own candle.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

All of our decorations were DIY or handmade. We created everything with the help of friends and family. We got together many days and had many “meetings” about the centerpieces, mantel display, and even the signs throughout placed in the wedding. We even made our seating chart out of an old picture frame and chicken wire. Yellow and white flowers with eucalyptus leaves completed the look.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Nicole’s mother’s family had a tradition that each bride would carry a pearl bible in her bouquet. Because this was so heavy and would not fit in her bouquet, we decided to keep it out for decoration, as all of the bride’s names were in the book, passed down through the family.

Nicole’s grandfather on her dad’s side passed away a few years ago, and he was a very big part of her life. So her grandma allowed Nicole to wear the necklace that Nicole’s grandpa gave grandma on their wedding day.

Tyler’s great grandfather, whom he is very close to, was not able to attend the wedding. So Tyler wore a watch that was gifted to him from his grandfather.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Do not stress!! Everything will come together and fall into place. Nobody will notice if there is a wrinkle in your linens, or one flower missing from a centerpiece. Everyone who is there to support you both cares about watching you commit your love to one another. It is about sharing this commitment with your close friends and family.

The marriage is what you should be excited about. A wedding is just an added bonus!! Right after the wedding and honeymoon, I had many moments where I was sad the planning and anticipation were over. I can now tell you, I am so happy we have our memories to look back and reflect on. We loved planning our wedding and the anticipation leading up to the big day, but it is such a blessing to be married to your best friend and live each and every day with one another.
