How many guests did you have?

We had 115 guests.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We had one of our dear friends marry us. She also helped set us up on our first blind date.

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

We did a lot of DIY projects for our wedding. I love to create, so our wedding was a dream come true when I got to make so much of the decor myself. I made the table arrangements by using collected silver tea sets and vases and used them to hold a variety of succulents and flowers. I also made the lace embroidery hoops to hang as part of our backdrop. I did all the calligraphy for the wedding including envelopes, the wooden bar menu, and table numbers.

My husband is a graphic designer and he was able to help add a lot of design elements, including our 20’s themed invitations, programs, photo booth mad-lib cards, and our seating arrangement sign.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We did quite a few trades. I am a hairstylist and my husband is a graphic designer. So we were able to utilize and trade a few of our services for some of the services we needed.  Also, we were able to make a lot of the decor and flowers ahead of time and our day-of coordinator executed the final look day-of. It was great having the peace of mind by putting it all in her hands.

Whats the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that youre on the other side?

I love that when I look back on our pictures and video, I can see a lot of the things we did ourselves. We wanted our wedding day to be nice and to feel fancy, but we also wanted to put our own personal stamp on things. I think the personal elements we added made it unique.

I would advise anyone trying to plan a wedding on a budget, to do as much as you can on your own. We made a list of our top 3-5 things that were important to us as far as budget went and then planned it from there.

What was your biggest splurge?

Photography! We were able to find an amazing photographer at a great price. We went slightly over budget for her. But she was well worth the splurge. We knew we wanted someone special to capture the day in a fun, creative way. She really did capture all the best moments.

What was your favorite detail?

It is hard to choose! There are so many elements of the day that stuck out and that we loved.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

My husband surprised me with a fun bridal party dance. He had all of the guys wear cowboy hats (which is not normally his gig, but totally mine!) and our DJ played a fun country song for it. It was one of my favorite parts of the day.
