How many guests did you have?

We had approximately 200 guests.

How did you meet?

Josh and I met in college through a mutual friend. She introduced me to their friend group and I eventually joined in on all the fun. We quickly discovered we could talk for hours and loved doing everything together.

What is your proposal story?

When Josh proposed he was living in New Jersey and I was finishing up school in Ohio. My roommate and I were hiking and “ended up” at this spot in the park that was a special place for Josh and I. As we rounded the corner Josh walked to the center of the path. Because he had been texting me all day like he was in New Jersey I didn’t recognize him at first and found it creepy some guy was walking toward us! After I realized it was him I instantly knew what was happening. We walked up the hill that our friend had carved steps in earlier that day. Josh had set up Tikki torches and pictures of us at the top. He got down on one knee, said a bunch of stuff I was too in shock to remember, and the rest is history!

Tell us about your wedding vision.

I wanted to have a simple, elegant and romantic wedding. It was a summer and our colors were Tiffany blue and blush. We chose The Willows on Westfield for a couple reasons. Firstly, it is beautiful! When Anne took us to the garden, the outdoor ceremony location, it was one of those I’m-reall-going-to-get-married moments and I instantly saw it all happening right there. The ballroom was elegant and romantic too, complete with plenty of room and a dance floor. Also, the staff were all wonderful and made the wedding day go by without any stress at all, going above and beyond to add small touches and services throughout the day.

Tell us about your attire choices.

My dress is a similar story to my venue. It was pretty much what I had in mind from the beginning. It was romantic and elegant. The corset was fitting and beaded and flowed into an A-line skirt. I went dress shopping with my mom and my best friend. When we walked into the Bridal Superstore they both pointed out the dress as beautiful and I should try it on. Amazingly, it was part of a trunk showing so on sale- making it exactly within budget including alterations and veil! Literally, a dream come true!

What was most important to you two while planning? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

Having a venue that fit all the guests and was within budget was important as well as having good food and good pictures. We definitely splurged the most on food.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Having Josh’s dad officiate the wedding made everything very special. We had a pretty emotional wedding because we are both close to our families and were moving away from both of them within the month. It wasn’t all a sad emotions though and it is special knowing that everyone’s hearts were so involved and we felt very loved. Getting to see and talk to all our friends from all different walks of life was unforgettable. Definitely the best day of my life to date!

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

Our flowers were fairly simple. A lot of baby’s breath and pink carnations mixed in with some other flowers for my bouquet. It was simple but beautiful.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Our wedding cake was simple as well. We had a two-tiered snickerdoodle cake covered in buttercream roses and fondant. The rest of the cake was snickerdoodle sheet cake with buttercream.

What did you do for favors?

We had a candy bar for favors. We bought the glass jars of all shapes and sizes at a garage sale and various blue candy online.

Please describe any handmade, DIY, or personal items.

For table numbers, I bought picture frames from Goodwill and spray painted the frame light blue and the glass with chalkboard paint. Then wrote in chalk all the table numbers. For centerpieces, I bought mason jars from Walmart along with different blush and white lace and ribbons and jewels. Then went to work decorating them!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding now?

Don’t skimp on photos or video! Not hiring a videographer is the biggest regret after everything is done.
