If there's one room in your home that deserves some attention, it's the bedroom. Whether you and your new spouse enjoy reading a good book at the end of a long day or prefer to Netflix and Chill, you want to feel comfortable in your bedroom. The bedroom should be the place that welcomes you home after a long day at work, the place to reconnect with your love at the end of the week, and a place to kick back, relax, and get some seriously good sleep. I'd venture to say that most newlyweds spend quite a bit of time in the bedroom after getting married… wouldn't you? That's why it's important to pick out items to make your master bedroom feel like a heavenly, restful place.
So how does one go about turning their bedroom into a heavenly space? Well, you're in luck, because I've got some tips and advice to impart to transform your bedroom into your ultimate happy place. Read our tips below:
How to Transform Your Bedroom Into Your Newlywed Sanctuary
1. Choose a Great Mattress.
Your bed really is the foundation of your room, and your life, if I'm being honest. There is nothing more important than getting a good night's sleep for maintaining your health, fighting signs of aging, and managing stress levels. That's why it's important to invest in a great mattress, whether you're looking to purchase one yourself, or planning to add it to your universal wedding registry. The folks at Cocoon by Sealy recently sent me one of their mattresses to test out, and let me tell you — once you've had an amazing night's sleep on a high-quality mattress, you'll wonder how you ever went so long without it.
2. Choose a Calming Color Palette
By selecting a color scheme that is serene and calming, you'll create a true place of rest and relaxation in your bedroom. Avoid busy patterns and loud colors that can be jarring to the mind. Some great color palettes for bedrooms include greys, blues, greens, whites, and taupes. The more monochromatic your scheme, the better. Light and airy colors help to make your space feel calm and allow you to unwind in a peaceful environment.
3. Clear the Clutter
If you've read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, you know that visual clutter causes stress. Keep your bedroom decor simple and understated to allow your mind to truly relax in your space. Minimize the amount of decorative tchotckes and try to organize anything that is on display on shelves and tables. Use decorative boxes to hide unsightly clutter out of sight, to keep your space feeling clean and fresh. Make a regular habit of getting rid of things you don't need to keep clutter at bay.
4. Set the Mood
Make sure to keep your favorite things close by, and create an atmosphere of love and happiness in your bedroom. Try placing your favorite books on your nightstand, loading up on lots of squishy pillows and a soft handmade quilt for movie nights, and stock up on scented candles in your favorite smells to make your bedroom feel more cozy.
Do these things and you'll be sure to create an environment that helps you relax and unwind no matter what the day brings!
My Cocoon by Sealy Mattress Review
For the last 3 years, my hubby and I have been sleeping on a mattress that got some water damage during our move from TN to NYC. We were already doing research on mattresses when the folks at Sealy reached out with the opportunity to review. We were looking for something that has decent support and we tend to like a firm mattress, so we immediately jumped at the chance to try out the new Cocoon by Sealy. Cocoon by Sealy mattresses come in two styles: soft and firm, so of course, we chose firm. I love that the mattresses come with a 100 night trial period and a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so there is very little risk involved. Cocoon mattresses also have a 10 year warranty as well as 24/7 customer support, so should any issues arise, it seems like they've got our backs!
The Cocoon by Sealy mattress arrived quickly, and was delivered straight to our door in a vacuum sealed box. It was waiting for me upon return from a trip to Flagstaff, and I was eager to have my hubby set it up for us! We unboxed it and glanced at the super simple instructions. I took a little video of part of the unpackaging process, but I promptly had to stop filming because E needed help turning the mattress around!
Unboxing My Cocoon by Sealy Mattress
As you can see, the mattress arrives vacuum sealed tight. As it fills up with air, it puffs up and expands to full density. It was so cool to watch! It only took about a minute for the mattress to expand fully, but they recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before laying on it. Once it was fully expanded, we promptly put the sheets on and gave it a test! What surprised me about the mattress is that it feels so soft and squishy at first. If you put your full weight and sit on the top you will sink in. But once you lie flat on the mattress your weight distributes easily and offers awesome, firm support.
We've been sleeping on this mattress now for about 2 weeks. My husband and I both agree that we are sleeping well on the Cocoon by Sealy. One thing I love about this mattress is that it seems to absorb some of the shock of my partner rolling over in bed. I like to tease my husband that he does the “Free Willy” in bed. I use this term to describe how he literally goes airborne off the mattress and slams back into the bed like a killer whale. I used to wake up every night when he would roll over, but since we switched to the Cocoon I've slept sweetly, and uninterrupted. That's amazing, in my opinion!
