What was your budget?
Our budget was about $20,000 on paper but what our minds expected to see was probably worth about $50,000. The majority of our budget was split between the venue and the caterer.
Bridal Look: $1,100
Photographer & Videographer: $1,200
How many guests did you have?
Our original invitation list was 325 people. We received 272 positive responses from our friends and family.
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We were able to represent and feel the love from our fraternity/sorority brothers and sisters. It was very important to us for our families to get to see the love and joy we get from that part of our life. I was even able to surprise my husband with a groomsmen cake that represented his love for his fraternity.
Much of the glitter and glam for the decorations of my wedding and reception were done by the mother of the bride, who was very cost conscious and crafty with DIY projects that were researched on Pinterest.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
In an effort to save money, we were able to do majority of our decorations DIY from items seen on Pintrest or purchase items being recycled from other brides. The mother of the bride definitely brought forth her bargaining skills.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
The best advice I can give someone planning a wedding is to have a coordinator that knows your style to work with you throughout the planning process as well as being in full control on the day of the wedding. As well as to just have fun with it. There is no reason to allow the joy of the day to be overshadowed by frustration of planning.
What was your biggest splurge?
My biggest splurge was spent on the purchase and altering of my wedding dress.
What was your favorite detail?
My favorite of the details were the decorations. Looking over Craigslist post I found the candelabras we used that literally took my breath away. I was so excited that we were able to find them and at such and affordable price.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
My husband and I had a very private wedding on 6/13/2014 with just our immediate family in attendance. We kept the ceremony a secret from all of our friends and family, until the exactly one year later during the reception of the larger wedding. During the reception, we asked that everyone focus on the movie screen where we shared pictures and video from the previous year’s wedding captured also by Vision & Style Photography. The looks on the faces of guests were priceless and then our DJ proceeded to play, “It’s Your Anniversary”. Definitely a moment to remember.
