Welcome Bride Blogger Becky
About Us
Hello BSB readers! My name is Becky and I am thrilled to be guest blogging for Budget Savvy Bride. I am 27 years old, a higher-education fundraiser by day and a crafter, baker and puppy mommy by night. Two years ago I joined Match.com, planning to thoroughly enjoy my six-month membership by going on lots of dates with lots of guys and taking none of them seriously. The second date I went on was with Matt, a then 25 year old sales and marketing professional who, like me, loves traveling and being goofy. I knew immediately that I had found someone special. Within only a few weeks I took down my online profile and told my mom I might have found “the one.”
Our Proposal
Matt and I have a weekend ritual of spending Sunday morning with a crossword puzzle over breakfast. One particularly busy weekend about a year into dating, Matt made a special “breakfast for dinner” on Sunday evening. About five minutes into doing the crossword puzzle, Matt wrote “WILLYOUMARRYME?” into one of the answers. My first reaction: “There are no punctuation marks in crossword puzzles!” Then I realized that Matt was holding a beautiful, 1920s vintage ring and he was clearly not answering a puzzle question. So I screamed and said, “YES!”
Our Wedding
We are getting married in mid-February 2011 in Columbus, Ohio, where we are both from. Our winter wedding will have bright, warm colors, red, turquoise, aqua and yellow, and a vintage travel theme. We’re paying for most of the wedding ourselves so were on a tight budget of $12,000 for 150 guests. Matt would like a very traditional wedding and I have very non-traditional taste (which is pretty much the pattern of our relationship in general) so it’s a fun challenge trying to find the right balance between the two to make everyone happy.
I look forward to sharing our joys, challenges, drama and DIY projects with you all over the next five months (That’s all? Yikes!) and getting to know some of my fellow BSB readers. This blog has been a great inspiration to me over the past 9 months of planning. I found my wedding photographer, Jessica Miller, through a Budget Savvy Wedding of the Week and I hope I am a similar resource for all of you. Thank you so very much for letting me share!
