What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

I had a black wedding dress! I do not like to wear white, ever – and there was never any doubt I wanted to look and feel like myself regardless of traditions.

We also got married on a Thursday afternoon, which is non traditional.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

There were a few things we did to save money! For one, I did my own makeup. We chose to not have a venue, and we also didn’t have any guests. It was just the two of us.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Look outside the box! Do what feels right to you as a couple without listening to other’s opinions. We would also suggest the bride and groom take a moment alone on their wedding day without distractions or other agenda.

What was your biggest splurge?

Our biggest splurge was our rings! We spent $500 total for both our rings but this was a special gift for us as we do not feel like it should be the most important thing in life as a married couple.

What was you favorite detail?

The spot we had our ceremony was our favorite detail. It is town property, and a little clearing of land overlooking Penetanguishene Bay. It’s a five minute walk from our home in Penetang!

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Taking pictures! Our photographer chauffeured us in her brand new red jeep to various locations near where we live to take pictures. It was fun and created memories we can cherish forever.
