All You Need is Love & a Donut

Styled Shoot submitted by Staci Mandikas from UNIQUE Weddings + Events

What was your design inspiration?

Pastel colors, retro style, and whimsical elements all inspired this design. We kept the overall look retro and sweet. We found some inspiration in old 50s housewife photos as well as retro kitchen design. We wanted to pull the older style into the modern time, but retain it’s overall soft and innocent feel.

Describe your flowers.

All of the flowers were classic, easy to source and economical – we used carnations, freesia, spray roses, mums and snapdragons, all in white and light pink. The arrangements were simple, with stems and clusters placed in kitchen dishes and small vases.

Describe your cake.

Rather than a cake, we focused on an array of mini donuts, created by the location. All of the flavors were their classic, well-known selections.

Tell us about your attire choices.

While the attire was modern, it had a retro feel. The bride wore a tea-length aline dress, while the groom wore a light colored suit with a bowtie.

Describe and DIY, handmade, or personal items.

All of the decor elements created, were handmade, with a DIY-spirit in mind.

Describe the tablescape elements.

With only two place settings complete with coffee mugs and milk bottles, a centerpiece was created by clustering a number of flowers in varying height vessels. Polka-dots, scalloped edges and stripes all were included in the tablescape design to achieve a design that was just as sweet as the delicious mini donuts. And, of course, all of the containers were vintage, even the cream and sugar bowls.
