This styled shoot focused on creating beautiful layers of texture to the venue space. They wanted to showcase African American vendors (except the florals and dresses) in the Washington, DC area. We also set out to feature African American models with lovely-textured hair for this Black Elegance theme. Sienna, ivory, and black is a great color combination and can be done in almost any venue. It’s often seen in various clothing patterns but for this design, we wanted the colors to warm up this amazing space. that can be dressed up or down. Touches of black added to the traditional yet industrial affair which is perfect for any modern couple’s wedding!

What was your design inspiration?

The focus of this concept was to create beautiful layers of texture in the space. The first layer of texture is found in the rust nu weave table linen. The next layer is the matte black stone chargers. The stone chargers add the formal factor this concept needs, without seeming out of place. The chargers contrast well against the light nature of the sienna linen. The heather textured napkins tie back to the linen-like texture of the nu weave table linen broken up by the chargers in a stark way. Last but not least, the wood textured flatware brought in the rustic charm. By keeping the sleek lines, the design remains modern across the board. From there the opportunities become endless for the floral arrangements.

Describe your flowers.

WestVirJeni provided lovely fresh floral arrangements for the bride, bridesmaid and sweetheart table that featured Anemone De Caen, pampas grass, roses of various shades of orange, pink and tan along with other unique and beautiful elements. Breathtaking Bouquets created silk florals using white orchids, bleached bunny tails, pampas grass, a lovely variety of greenery and flowers for the bride’s, bridesmaid and table centerpiece.

Tell us about your attire choices.

The bride wore a stunning, white gown featuring a deep sweetheart-cut along with sheer insets and a lovely train.

To complement the bride’s traditional white dress, her hair was fashioned into a low ponytail while the maid of honor’s hair was a bevy of soft auburn-colored coils to frame her face. Modernly Beautiful draped the bride’s eyelid with a soft orange to complement the sienna details throughout the decor’s design. Keaira Makeup Artistry matched the maid of honor’s makeup with the bride’s by adding a soft pop of color to her lids and keeping the lips neutral.

The bridesmaid’s black laser-cut sheer panel dress is a nice companion to the bride’s ball gown.

The groom’s black sequined blazer with a satin lapel from Stanlion Collection, accented with a black satin-embroidered bow tie and cross brooch.

Describe the tablescape elements.

Sheer Joy Affairs believes, incorporating texture immediately elevates any design concept, without having to break the bank. The first layer of texture is found in the navy blue velvet table linen. We’re loving the velvet trend right now. It brought a luxurious feel to the head table. The next layer is the laced patterned glass chargers. The glass chargers added the elegance factor this concept asked for.

The lace pattern chargers complement the lace details in the bride’s dress and contrast well against the deepness of the navy blue velvet. The ivory shantung napkins add another dimension of contrast and help to bring back the smooth texture broken up by the chargers in a different way.

Describe your cake.

Soul Cakes by Tanya created an amazing cake with a sparkly top tier, elegant lettering on the middle layer saying “we do” and an ombre lower tier. If that isn’t enough to make it stand out, the lovely gold-trimmed 3-dimensional shape separating two of the layers gave it further dimension along with the beautiful blush peonies.

Please describe any other details.

A custom invitation suite and menu cards from The Wilson Avenue adds another personalized element with lovely script and sienna-colored accents. Stationery for Lovers, white and black love note cards added to the traditional feel of the design elements.
