Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day?

We knew we wanted to get married in the most beautiful setting we could imagine: Zion National Park. Our color palette and desert bohemian theme were all based around enjoying what the beautiful scenery had to offer!

We brought only our closest friends and family along with us. Our intimate ceremony and reception of only 18 people total was everything we could have hoped for.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

Our ceremony was on the edge of a cliff overlooking Checkerboard Mesa in Zion National Park, so we had very simple décor. We had small boho rugs creating an aisle and two large floral arrangements atop wooden stands creating an alter.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

Florals and greenery played an important role in making our wedding pop with color.  The only floral pieces we had were my bouquet and 3 large floral arrangements that enhanced the brown and red back drop with shades of purple, blue, orange, and pink. We did our best to keep all of the flowers native to southern Utah.

We also had our florist include dried morel mushrooms (also native to southern Utah) throughout the arrangements as a personal touch due to my husband’s interest in mycology. During dinner, we wanted to create a space conducive to conversation – so instead of using centerpieces, we had clay pots with live herbs.

What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

We had such an intimate wedding that we were able to personalize almost every aspect of the event! We were all staying in our wedding Villa for 4 nights. It had become home for all of the guests. We had live music and made sure everyone felt comfortable by requesting their favorite songs and creating the night they wanted. We ended the night with s’mores by a campfire under the beautiful desert stars.

How did you both choose your wedding day look?

My husband and I knew we wanted to go on a hike on our wedding day for photos, so comfort was a huge factor in choosing what we would wear. I had my wedding boots before I had any idea what dress I would be in!

In addition to being able to hike, I knew I wanted to wear a simple off white A-line dress with a boho vibe that didn’t have much sparkle. As soon as I put the dress on, I knew it was the one. It had a sweetheart neckline with a little bit of lace around the top, and sheer off the shoulder sleeves that went to my elbows.

We knew we wanted my husband to wear a tan suit to go with the desert background. He ended up choosing a 2 piece suit in camel that was a perfect match for the Zion scenery.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

My husband and I met at a joint bachelor (his college roommate)/bachelorette (my best friend) party. We both ended up being the team captains of the boys versus girls scavenger hunt around Philadelphia. We hit it off right away.

Phil proposed to me 2 years later on the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey, at sunset. The daughter of one of our close friends asked us to search for seashells around sunset. Phil yelled to me that he found something really cool, and when I went over he was holding the ring. I was so caught off guard that I didn’t even realize what was going on and asked how we can get it back to the person it belonged to! Next thing I knew, he was on his knee. It was perfect!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

We were most excited about going on our hike after the ceremony for our photos. We love hiking and it was everything we had hoped for and more. Not only was it fun and absolutely beautiful, but we felt like celebrities getting “congratulations” from every hiker going by!

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

This is your day! Make it what you want and try not to worry too much about what everyone else will want. Planning a wedding is stressful but if you make it about you, your partner, and your love – you wont regret a thing.
