What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

Unfortunately, both of our grandmothers had passed before our wedding. To keep them both there in spirit, I wore James’ grandmother’s earrings and used her clutch, and wore one of my grandma’s anklets during the ceremony. For the reception, I wore my grandma’s emerald jewelry.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

My husband was late to our ceremony because he and his whole family got lost coming up the mountain that we were getting married on!

I forgot my wedding band at the hotel. Unfortunately, our hotel was 40 minutes away from where the ceremony was, so going back wasn’t an option. This just really rounded out the day and really encompassed who we are as people and as a couple. At the moment, I was freaking out because my husband was late and I forgot my wedding band – but it was something we could both laugh about at the end of the day!

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We hired Simply Eloped. They took care of everything for the ceremony, including securing the permit for the venue, the floral arrangement, the officiant, the photographer, videographer and more! For $4,500 we didn’t have to worry about anything other than showing up to be married!

What was your biggest splurge?

Our biggest splurge was driving across the country. We drove from the Midwest all the way to California! It was a great experience to see the country and meet new people along the way.

What were your favorite details?

My favorite details were my golden Chuck Taylors. I have never been much of a high heel woman, so I wore gold Chucks and they really showed just who I am.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Breathe! For the most part I was a pretty relaxed bride, but as we got closer to the day (especially planning it from across the country), I became more anxious about everything being perfect.

Your wedding day doesn’t have to be “perfect” because as long as you and your spouse get there safely, you love each other, and are excited to get married – your wedding day will be perfect!
