Did you do any DIY Projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?
We put together all of our centerpieces with decor we collected from family and different stores.
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We both love golf, so it was important to us to have our reception at a golf course. We took pictures with our golf clubs and a golf cart with a sign that said “Just Married”. On the day of our engagement, we went to a few wineries in Door County.
For our centerpieces, we collected empty bottles of wine and filled them with fairy lights as a nod to our engagement and something different than candles.
For our guestbook, we had a customized football jersey.
What is the most memoriable moment of your day?
The most memorable moment of our day was our first look. We are so happy we did a first look because it gave us a chance to calm our nerves and spend a special moment together. Looking at our pictures, we can take ourselves back to that moment, and it feels just as special as the first time.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
We chose to have our wedding on a Friday to avoid the typical high Saturday costs.
We created a very detailed spreadsheet with all potential vendors and the quotes they provided us. With a lot of research and number crunching, we were able to find vendors that best suited us while saving costs.
What was your biggest splurge?
Our food and bar service. Saz’s Catering is absolutely worth the cost.
What was your favorite details?
We each gave each other a day of gift. My husband got me a customized embroidered jean jacket with our wedding date and flowers on it. I got him a customized watch in his favorite style.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Be up front with vendors and advocate for what you want. Make sure you do your homework on vendors to find the best ones and avoid the red flags. We did have a videographer, but did not include their information due to poor service. We read lots of positive reviews, but as the wedding day grew closer, a lack of communication should have signaled to us that something was up.
