Did you do any DIY Projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?

We thrifted a large mirror, painted it ourselves and then ordered a decal welcoming guests to our wedding. We also ordered a large piece of paper with our seating chart on it, and we glued it to cardboard to make it sturdy enough to stand on an easel.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We chose to get married in the same coastal town we met: Saugatuck. It’s already ranked one of the best beach towns in the USA, so to have met there and be able to get married there was very personal to us.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Being announced as Mr and Mrs. Haakinson for the first time was incredible, we will never forget it.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We had our wedding on a Sunday at an all inclusive venue.

What was your biggest splurge?

Our biggest splurge was the honeymoon! We love traveling so we knew we wanted a more affordable wedding and a long honeymoon.

What was your favorite detail?

The bride’s favorite detail was her grandmother’s bracelet, and the groom’s favorite detail was his grandparent’s cake cutting set that they used in their wedding.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Make small checklists every month as opposed to looking at the full checklist all at once. My notes app became my best friend!
