Sparkling Cider Toast

I could give or take champagne, but sparkling apple cider? I’d drink that stuff by the gallon if I could. So when we were planning the toast, the first thing I thought of was one of the sparkling cider variety. Why not? It was cheap (2 for $3 per bottle if it’s on sale and you have a coupon !), delicious, has a similar visual effect as champagne, and on the off chance that it doesn’t get finished, I won’t be worried about what to do with all the leftover because while a celebration sort of feels necessary with champagne, the same mentality doesn’t apply with sparkling cider.

Surprisingly, choosing what to drink was the easy part. Choosing exactly what to toast with? That was a little more difficult. I wanted something affordable, but it looked like if I wanted champagne flutes that weren’t pricey, I would have to get the dinky plastic disposable type. Not particularly interested, mainly because I’m not in love with the sound they make when they clink together; so it looked like we would have to go scouring around for some cheap glass ones. So once, while we were in the Dollar Tree looking for said flutes and me, getting frustrated with the lack of options, my favorite gentleman said

*Does it need to be a champagne flute? When we go to parties, we toast with whatever we’re drinking at the time.*

and I realized it was true; I also was again reminded of how awesome it was to be marrying someone who keeps me sane when these types of wedding decisions get to be too much. So after that, I relaxed and decided that if we found cheap, affordable glasses we would get them. In June 2012, during a trip to IKEA to find assorted furniture and other household needs for our apartment, we struck gold. Five-ounce glasses in a 6 pack for $1.49? I couldn’t stuff our cart with 15 boxes quickly enough! I loved how they looked, and that they held just enough cider for a toast.

Total Cost for our wedding toast? $56 estimated

$1.49 a box of glasses + 15 boxes = $26 including tax
$1.50 a bottle of sparkling cider x 20 bottles = $30 (estimated)
