How many guests did you have?

We had 25 guests.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

Star Wars theme as a surprise to my husband to be!

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

We had Mason jars filled with candies for the favors, handmade chalkboard signs and Beau created the Star Wars Crawl poster.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

My parents have a beautiful backyard in the historic part of Newmarket.  Gazebo, pool, large deck, beautiful landscaping.  We asked to have the venue there to save money, and have beautiful pictures.  We also didn’t rent transportation since it’s a waste of money and made arrangements with friends and family to drive us home, take us to pictures, etc.

My parents were also extremely helpful in assisting with costs.  We had most of the glassware, plates, baskets, etc so we only needed to rent the big things.  My parents also helped with the bar costs, and my Maid of Honor bought me a few gifts along the way (such as our custom made Star Wars shoes!).  I also wore the same shoes from my first wedding (maybe its bad luck!) – they were in mint condition, designer, low, and I spent a fortune the first time on them.  Why not re-use!  We did all the decorating ourselves too.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

This was both our second wedding.  So you really learn the tricks on saving money – what you need, don’t need, who you really want to be there.  I browsed around frequently for deals as they came up.

What was your biggest splurge?

My dress – I was actually budgeting myself lower.  Again, after being married before you realize how silly it is to spend a lot of money on a dress you only wear for a few hours.  However, I ended up liking my dress and went over-budget.

What was your favorite detail?

Our favorite detail was having our daughter, Holly, as part of our wedding!  But, next to that it was our flowers.  We had blue/purple hydrangeas with beautiful lanterns.  At night our tent with lit with twinkly lights, and my parents lit the backyard with twinkly lights as well.  We also had a gorgeous chandelier hanging from the gazebo.  It was an oasis in the middle of a hot, muggy, thunderstorm day and night!

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

The weather!  We literally got married in-between tornado touch-downs (we had a rain delay).  Our pictures were taken in Kettleby and the sun was shining – they ended up being spectacular.  And, jumping into the pool at midnight to cool down in our sundresses!  Beau was so surprised at the Star Wars surprises – he had no clue.  I also had one of my closest friends, Sharon, make the trip all the way from Texas with her son and husband to be part of our day (we hadn’t seen each other in 4 years).
