Black Friday is for Brides | The Budget Savvy Bride
The Budget Savvy Bride

It’s almost that time of year again. The time to go out and fight crowds in order to snag ultra savings on your Christmas shopping list.  In my family, for as long as I can remember it’s always been a tradition to go out shopping on Black Friday. Some years we fill up the car with shopping bags (One year we even needed to come home to unload!). Other years, we’ve only bought one or two items.  Regardless, it’s a tradition to wake up before the crack of dawn, fight crowds, have breakfast, grab coffee, and participate in the madness.

This year, I’m not limiting my Black Friday shopping to just Christmas finds; it’s a perfect opportunity to find some awesome sales on wedding goods.  I’ve already begun mapping out the stores to start with based on their opening times (Personally, I’m refusing to go anywhere on Thanksgiving Day – tradition will hold true of waking up early, not staying up all night!).  We’re going to begin in and around local areas around 5am, and eventually end up in Downtown Chicago which is roughly a two and a half hour drive away (A new tradition we started last year). There’s just something about shopping along Michigan Avenue, and checking out all the holiday decorations in the store windows that can’t be beat!

Lunch at the Signature Room, Chicago 2012 on Black Friday

Even though many Black Friday deals have already been leaked to sites like BFAds.net, I highly suggest grabbing a newspaper on Thanksgiving Day just to make sure sales haven’t changed, and to have copies of all store coupons on hand. Here’s a list I’ve complied from my online browsing for some wedding deals & sales to be on the lookout for:

Dresses:

Did you know that November & December are the best months to snag a deal on wedding dresses? Pair that with the biggest shopping day of the year, and you’re sure to find one stellar sale! While 2013 details are not released yet, In 2012, David’s Bridal was offering $50.00 to $300.00 off on bridal gowns with another 10% off orders below $200 and 20% orders above $200.  In 2012 several bridal dresses were discounted to $99.99 with even some bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses listed as low as $29.99. It may be worth checking what they’re offering for Black Friday 2013!

Do-it-Yourself

Michaels, Joann Fabrics, and Hobby Lobby each have their own Black Friday sales that vary store to store. If you have craft projects on your list, be sure to check if the supplies you need are on sale. Here are a few highlights:

I’ve noticed Pinterest is loaded with Burlap projects.  Joann Fabrics will have 40% off 10-yard Natural burlap By-theBolt (48inches wide, sale price comes to $23.99)

Michael’s will have several coupons included in their sale flyer. One will be good on Friday 11-29-2013 from 7am-noon for 30% your entire purchase, including sale items! The second will be good on Saturday 11-30-2013 from noon to 10pm  for 50% off any one regular priced item (pg 2 of the Michael’s Black Friday ad)

Michael’s will also have BOGO Scrapbook & Photo Albums

If you’re planning on printing your own invitations and need a printer, I’ve always seen the best deals on Black Friday. Office Depot is offering a Brother HL-2240 Monocrome Laser Printer for $49.98 ($70 savings!)  You can also use your Wrapp here, for an extra $5 off!  (Note, this is only a black & white printer so decide what kind of printing capabilities you’re going to need).

Staples will also have multiple printers on sale

 Lingerie

I haven’t come across an official release for Victoria’s Secret Black Friday deals yet, but in past years with a $65 purchase you received a tote filled with different goodies.  2012’s tote included the following:

  • Sexy Little Things “Noir Tease” scented body mist (2.5 fl. oz.)
  • Beauty Rush “Shiny Kiss” flavored lip gloss (.46 oz.)
  • Victoria’s Secret Seduction Eau de Perfume No. 1 Dark Orchid (.05 fl. oz.)
  • “Love My Body” body lotion (2 fl. oz.)
  • Card for $10.00 off a $50.00 Beauty Purchase for December 2-10, 2012.

Luggage

Here’s a sampling of some luggage deals. If you plan on doing frequent air traveling in the future, opt for quality with brands like Samsonite. From my experience cheaper luggage sets only last 1-2 flights! My hardsided Samsonite case takes a beating and has lasted several cross country flights so far!)

JC Penney – 60% off Samsonite Luggage (Sale $39.99-$219.99)

Kohl’s – $59.99 –Skyway Hardside or Softside Luggage (Reg. $199-$249)

Sears – Forecast Figi 3pc Luggage Set – $39.99 (Reg. $139.99)

Jewlery

JC Penney will have a Doorbuster  $149 for a ¼ ct. t.w. diamond band. We’ve already snagged our wedding bands, but if you’re in the market for yours it may save you to check out what stores are offering as Black Friday deals.

Men’s

Stores like Jos A. Bank and Brooks Brothers also have unadvertised Black Friday deals.  Stop by stores to find out exactly what’s on sale.  In 2012, Jos. A Bank offered the following:

As a hint, try checking out outlet malls for more men’s deals at stores like Banana Republic Outlet.  Outlet chains also offer coupons online that you can sign up for as well. For instance, Premium Outlets has a site where you can subscribe for email coupons to various stores. If you stop by their information centers, you can often snag coupon booklets!

Shoes

Macys Door Buster for 50% off heels & flats (Assorted brands).  There’s also a WOW savings Pass Coupon for an extra 10% off shoes that will be included in the sale flyer! (It says not including specials or Super Buys, so check with the store to find out if DoorBusters are included or not).

 Miscellaneous

My digital camera eats batteries, so it’s a good thing Office Depot is offering a 2 for $4 battery deal (Energizer Max Alkaline AAA battery 4-pk). I plan on taking lots of site seeing photos on our honeymoon so this is a great time to stock up. Plus, I plan on using a $5 Wrapp deal so they’ll be FREE!

BOGO 12 gallon hinged lid storage totes for $6.98 at Lowes. Let’s face it –you need a place to start stashing all the wedding gear you’ve been stockpiling. Plus, having it all in one place to begin with will help simplify as your big day approaches. Just label totes where they need to go (i.e church, reception, ect). Plus, you’ll have them for after the wedding as well. I know I’m always looking for totes to store stuff in around the house. These appear to look fairly sturdy, so I’m going to check them out.

Walgreens has LOTS of freebies after Register Rewards.  I’m still planning my strategy here, but I’m thinking of getting supplies for those ‘Bridesmaid Survival Kits’. You know the ones that have hair clips, mints, clear nail polish, ect. in them for the day of? Couponing Blog MogoSavings has an extensive list of all freebies with links of where to go to print coupons to stack the sales with (Some are even money makers, where you basically get paid to take the item home with you!)

For instance, Listerine Pocketpaks (72pk) will be one sale for $2.99. Walgreens will be offering a buy 1, get back $2.50 Register Reward for future purchases.  There is a $2/1 printable Listerine PocketPaks printable coupon to use (Mojo shares the link to get this coupon). The final prices is FREE + $1.51 Money Maker after the Register Rewards!

Once again, don’t forget to use your Wrapps while you’re out shopping! Yes, most Wrapps can be used along with Black Friday deals!!! (Potentially $10 to H&M, $10 to White House Black Market, $5 Office Depot, $5 Sephora, $10 off $30 at Victoria Secret, and more! Be sure to check them out, they change daily!).  Reference my article here on how to use Wrapp if you need a refresher.

Last but not least here’s a sweet deal for Macy’s Black Friday shoppers $10 off a $25 purchase printable coupon

PLUS you can pair it with a $10 Macy’s digital gift card when you download their Star Gifts App.  Hip2Save shows how to score this deal here. In the end, it’ll be like paying $5 for $25 worth of goods at Macy’s! (Accessories anyone?!)

Don’t forget about Cyber Monday deals either.  While I haven’t gotten past my hunt on Black Friday deals yet I’d certainly check out what online bridal retailers are offering. Plus, when you’re online shopping be sure to use Ebates to snag some extra sales and cash back offers!

I’d love to hear what Black Friday deals you’re on the lookout for!

I'm a 30 year old engineer from Michigan. My fiance and I are in the process of planning our wedding for May of 2014. We love to travel and are incorporating many finds from places we've visited into our wedding. I'm also a self proclaimed, "Boarder-line Extreme Couponer" and love snagging a great deal on wedding stuff!

    Hi Dana,

Thanks alot for mentioning all of these deals.
With a wedding coming up in late 2014.
It is just essential that we stay on budget. So this year coming we will be a bit frugal and look on every which way to save.
Another good source I came across was http://www.afteryes.co
Whats cool about it is that I can now compare vendors by price, feedback and portfolio all at my fingertips saving me alot of hassle.

    Thanks again Dana.
