So thrilled to share a super fun project from our friends at Download & Print! As you know, we've been working with Download & Print for years on awesome printable tutorials, as well as our exclusive collection of printable wedding invitations for Budget Savvy Brides! Today, we'll be sharing a DIY project created by our friend Anna Skye: a vintage photo album pocket! This diy wedding invitation embellishment is actually a pouch that you can put your invitation inside of for an added vintage detail. SOOO CUTE, right?!
Traditional wedding invitations and the included enclosures such as RSVP cards and envelopes are typically collected inside an inner envelope before being placed in the official outer mailing envelope. But for couples who want an updated spin on the traditional two-envelope feel, this vintage inspired pouch idea is a unique and creative twist on the same concept.
We love this project because it's inexpensive, simple, pretty quick, and adds some awesome vintage flair to your invitation suite without a whole lot of extra time or money invested. I'd say that's a budget savvy WIN!
The project is built around the mini photo squares from Social Print Studio. Even though they don't have an affiliate program, I am recommending them anyway because I've personally purchased their cute mini photos before and I love the way they look displayed around my apartment and in my awesome square print photo sleeves as seen on my Instagram. They're SO perfect for this project!!
For $15 you can get 48 prints, which you will mount to your invitation pocket. You could choose to use the same pic for every invite pouch, or mix and match a few of your favorites so each guest gets a slightly different design. The mini photo prints are a great way to show off your engagement photos and are an added memento that your guests may enjoy keeping to hang on their fridge. You could even create these invitation pockets with baby photos, pictures from your early dating life, or any other image that is special to you. That's what makes this project extra personal is that you get to choose!
The invitation set used in this tutorial is the navy Ornate Vintage bundle which you'll see in the photos below. One of the great things about this project is that you can create these previous pouches to go along with any invitation suite, whether you purchase it or make it yourself. One thing to note is that this project is created for a 5 x 7 or A7 size invitation.
SUPPLIES YOU'LL NEED:
- 5×7 wedding invitations
- Instagram social print mini-squares (or any print that you like)
- 5 x 7.5″ kraft bags (get 100 for about $7 on Amazon)
- Peel and stick photo corners (they come in various colors on Amazon!)
- Archival ink pen
- Cutting Mat, Ruler and Xacto Knife OR Paper Trimmer
How to Make a Vintage Photo Album Pocket
STEP 1: TRIM THE KRAFT BAGS
The kraft bags come sized 5 x 7.5 inches, which is a little too long for our needs. Use a ruler and Xacto Knife or a Paper Trimmer to remove about an inch off the top of the bag. This will allow the invitation to peek out of the top, creating a nice display. Anna trimmed her bags to 6” in length, but you can experiment with different sizes depending on the look you're going for.
STEP 2: ADD YOUR PHOTO
Slide a photo corner over each corner of your photo, remove the sticky backing and then press it onto the front of your kraft bag. Just “eyeball” the center of your bag – no need to be perfect or precise. The photo corners will stick to your bag but not your photo, allowing easy removal of the photo so your guests can keep it and hang it on their fridge, but not so easy that it'll fall out without accidentally.
STEP 3: PERSONALIZE THE POUCH WITH A NOTE
Using an archival ink pen, add a personal note or caption to your pouch for a handmade vintage feel. You can write a note related to the photo, personalize each pouch to each of your guests, or just write your names and wedding date for a sweet detail.
STEP 4: INSERT YOUR INVITATION
Once your pouch is complete, slide your invitation package into the kraft pocket. Make sure to also include the RSVP card and envelope, and any additional enclosures like a directions card, map, etc.
Voila! There you have it! Isn't that such a simple and sweet project? I really love the vintage vibe and I think it will make such a lovely addition to your wedding suites that your guests are sure to love and appreciate. And it's a perfect excuse to order more of these adorable square prints from Social Print Studio.
