How did you meet?

We ran into each other and met at a mutual friend’s birthday party.

What is your proposal story?

Micah had planned for us to go hiking up Star Mountain. When we reached the top where it overlooked the Hiwassee river, that’s where he popped the question. There was a blanket covered in rose petals with candles surrounding it, Moon Taxi playing in the background, while a beautiful sunset fell in the background.

Tell us about your wedding vision.

My vision wasn’t exactly easy to find over Pinterest. I chose my colors; blush pink, navy blue, and gold, because those colors complete each other so well and would look good on everyone in our wedding party.

Being a small-town girl I wanted to keep some of my roots and stick with a barn venue and have that rustic feel. My personal style, however, is very glitz and glam, so I just combined the two styles together.

Tell us about your attire choices.

Groom/groomsmen: Micah (groom) really liked the navy blue suits and picked out his attire and his groomsmen’s attire. Then we used the pink ties to match with the girls.

Bride/ Bridesmaid: Audrey (bride) wanted to keep her dress very elegant with all the glam added to it. For the girls’ dresses, in blush pink, I chose an asymmetric line to give it that sophisticated yet trendy style, while still looking great for each girl’s body type.

What was most important to you two? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

The most important thing to us was to not let the stress of planning get in the way of being able to share in the joy of our big day and being newlyweds. Both of our parents were really great at making our wedding dreams come true. What we did splurge on was having a videographer, our gorgeous venue, and my dress alterations.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Audrey: my favorite memory was standing in the Foyer of the chapel waiting to be walked down by my dad, feeling so excited and so ready to see Micah for the first time. As soon as the doors opened and I saw my soon to be husband standing there, tearing up as soon as he saw me.

Micah: Seeing her as those doors opened in the back of the church… I’ve never been so overwhelmed with emotions. Our sendoff and our quiet drives to and from the reception both stick out as the simplest but most beautiful moments for me.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

I wanted a brooch bouquet without it being super round. My mother bought flowers and learned how to make a waterfall bouquet and added some heirloom pearls and brooch pieces from my grandmother, as well as sewing a piece of her wedding dress lace around the stem of the handle.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

For the style and color, we wanted it to match the color theme and compliment the chocolate bar. So the cake was blush pink with dark chocolate dropped down the sides and different chocolate candies placed on top. The cake was a chocolate and raspberry flavor, so not only was it gorgeous it tasted like heaven. For sentimental value, the bride’s oldest sister made the cake. They knew she would give them the most beautiful cake and bring their vision to life.

What did you do for favors?

We didn’t have favors to cut down on cost. We did have coloring pages and games for the children.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

  • Garter: I made my garter out of leftover beading from my dress
  • Seating chart: my mom(bride) and middle sister(bride) got a big mirror, painted it, printed out names, and framed it all to be displayed at the reception.
  • Chocolate Bar: chocolate was provided by an old employer and family friend(bride) and my mom(bride) designed and made the display table for all the chocolate to be placed on
  • Bridesmaid get ready shirts: I(bride) found jean shirts at goodwill and then bleach dipped them and colored them with pink die.
  • Guestbook: I(bride) went on Shutterfly and designed our guest book to match our theme and put quotes in it as well.
  • Mixer: we had a small mixer between the ceremony and the reception at the bottom of the chapel. Micah(groom) made a slideshow, my mom (bride) made all the centerpieces for the tables, and my family (bride) decorated the whole downstairs and made the drinks (tea, lemonade, water)
  • Hair: my mom styled my hair
  • Flowers: we gave a single rose to all the grandmothers and moms. On those roses, we hand wrote notes to each of them

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Veil: it was what my mom and my oldest sister wore on their wedding day.
Bouquet: broach was my grandmothers, stem made of lace from my mothers dress, pearls from my godmother

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Do premarital counseling, we use a lot if the information from our sessions in our daily lives, and it really helped us prepare for life together.

Also, let the groom help plan as much as he would like to. In a society where it’s all the bride’s responsibility, it was so nice having his help and input. It’s just as much his big day as it was mine and I wanted it to be Just as special for him too.
