If you’re looking for a unique way to incorporate greenery into your wedding, why not try using cuffs or combs? They’re a simple and elegant way to add a touch of nature to your look. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make them yourself. So gather up some supplies and let’s get started!

This is an alternative option for the previous post we shared where we created Floral Cuffs and Combs for your wedding.

Supplies you’ll need:

Here’s a list of the supplies and tools you’ll need to do your floral cuff or comb:

  • Brass Cuff
  • Metal or Plastic Hair comb
  • Paddle Wire
  • Card Stock
  • Snips
  • Floral Glue

Greenery

  • Leather Leaf
  • Salal
  • Eucalyptus
  • Bunny Tail Grass

The Flower Recipe:

These are so small that you will only use a few bits and pieces of each type of greenery. And you will actually just use the leaves of the greenery, not necessarily the whole stem as opposed to bouquets and centerpieces. Maybe account for having one stem of each greenery to use for each piece.

PRO FLOWER TIP:

When you are making other pieces for your wedding or event, save all the little bits and pieces of greenery to use here. We usually keep a few small vases for the offshoots of the greenery that we don’t use in bouquets or centerpieces. SAVE EVERYTHING. You’ll be glad you did.

How to Put Together Your Greenery Cuff

Follow these easy steps to make your own greenery cuff!

Step 1:

Make sure the cuff is clean and dry.

Step 2:

Place a good base of cold floral adhesive down on the cuff. Be careful as the glue comes out fast but once it hits the air it sets up quickly. It works like rubber cement in that it adheres to itself so place some on the cuff while you prep the greenery. Don’t leave it for too long. 30 seconds is enough. Then when you are ready, put a small amount of glue on the greenery leaves and pieces.

Step 3:

Start with your more broad-leafed greenery like salal. We use salal tips as they are a bit smaller and more manageable. Use these as a foundation upon which you’ll build your design.

Pro Tip!

If your leaves are too big, cut them down! Cutting them with scissors to your desired shape or length is incredibly helpful here. We do it all the time!

Step 4:

Layer in other components such as the leather leaf, eucalyptus, and bunny tail. Break down the stems into individual leaves for easier use. You may use some very short stems to help create depth and fill in (you don’t want to see any glue or holes) with smaller leaves and bunny tail grass.

I always work in layers, using one type of greenery and then move onto the next layer with another type of greenery. Building on it to give it depth and dimension. There is zero formula to this so have fun!

Step 1:

Prep your comb. Cut your card stock to your desired size (not too big!) and wrap your comb with paddle wire making sure you leave two long strands on each end to help give something to glue the card stock to. Sandwich the two strands of wire between two pieces of card stock and hot glue the pieces of cardstock together. Let cool before you start on the greenery and clean up any strands of hot glue so they don’t get stuck in your hair!

Step 2:

Place a good base of cold floral adhesive down on the cardstock.

Allow at least 60 minutes for the glue to dry all the way before placing the comb in hair. From experience, it sucks trying to get floral glue out of your hair so give it time to dry!
