How did you meet?

On Facebook! I was looking for a different guy with the same name. I friended him and he replied back. He said, “Why’s a pretty girl like you friending me?” We were both in a relationship at the time so didn’t think much of it.  Well, we never stopped talking. A few weeks went by and our relationships didn’t work out. A couple of months later we started dating.

What is your proposal story?

December of 2017, we were in Pizmo for my father-in-law’s birthday. The 2nd of December Kyle and everyone who was there to celebrate had planned a proposal. The night before, everyone told me that we were going seashell hunting on the beach. The next morning I got all ready to go hunting with my bag. It was 11 o’clock, but little did I know that you need to go out earlier in the morning to get anything. Kyle and I started walking on the beach and he asked me a few adult questions… Like where do you see yourself in 5 years? A little farther we walked. I was looking at the ocean when he asked me to turn around. When I turned I saw on the ground some decor shaped like a heart and a sign that said Marry Me, Abby. He then proceeded to get on one knee and asked me to marry him. When I, of course, said Yes! Everyone popped out and was screaming with joy. It was such a surprise and an amazing proposal. The weather was sunny and perfect too.

Tell us a bit about your wedding vision.

So my wedding colors were purple, light blue, and white. For as long as I can remember those have always been the colors I’ve wanted to use whenever I got married. Since I love the beach and had been proposed to on the beach, I wanted to use a beach theme for the wedding. The location of the wedding was Blue Lake, CA, at a casino hotel. The ceremony was supposed to be at the beach near the hotel but it started to rain. We ended up having the ceremony and reception in what they called the Sapphire Palace.

Tell us about your attire choices.

My dress was from David’s Bridal. It was a beautiful rose color, laced A-Line. I had the dress altered to be shorter in the front and longer in the back, and I wore rose colored converse. I had a Maid of honor and one bridesmaid. They both wore 2 different shades of purple long dresses also from David’s Bridal. They also wore purple Converse. My groom wore a nice pair of jeans and a white dress shirt with a grey vest. The best man and groomsman wore nice jeans and white dress shirts with different shades of blue ties. The guys all wore black Converse.

What was most important to you two while planning?

The most important thing for us was to not spend a whole lot of money since we were paying for the wedding ourselves. But we made sure we got everything we wanted.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

My favorite part of the wedding was that all the families were together. It was so nice to see everyone who we haven’t seen in years. My favorite memory will forever be seeing my husband kill it on the dancefloor. I had never seen him dance the way he did on that day, and it made me so happy. Everyone had fun and it was a great turn out.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

My wedding flowers came from Arcata Florist. I wanted to have all my wedding colors in them and they exceeded my expectations. I love Roses and lilies and they made sure to have both of those in the bouquets.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

My wedding cake was simple. It was a beach theme one tier cake. My mother made it for us. The hotel made purple and blue cupcakes for everyone.

What did you do for favors?

For my favors, I did customized M&Ms in our colors and a mini alcohol bottle in a blue or purple gift bag. We decided on all the different Jack Daniels bottles, and we put tags on them saying “We tied the knot now take a shot!” I had a deck of cards on each table with our picture on them. I also had 2 mini bells to ring for a kiss on each of the tables.

Please describe any handmade, DIY, or personal details.

My centerpieces were all DIY. I made my main centerpiece item look like a beach inside a little fishbowl. There was a skinny vase placed in the fishbowl that stayed in place. I had purple, blue, and white sand in each of them around the vase and topped them with seashells. I put water in the vases and flowers. The sides of the centerpieces were two little jars that I fish lined and glued starfish to them. The jars were filled with a waterproof light and colored water beads.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

DO NOT STRESS! If something doesn’t go to plan on the wedding day, nobody knows but you. Just work around it. Everything works out in the end. The day is done before you know it, so enjoy every minute of it!
