What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We put up photographs of our 35 years together at the wedding entrance, photographs of family no longer with us, and personal readings from family and friends, We also had a caricature done of our 4 dogs that we put at the entrance to welcome our guests to the wedding!

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

With the help of Altahammond Wedding Barn, we dressed the room and tables ourselves.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

The biggest thing we did to save money was not use a planner. We did it all ourselves!

What was your biggest splurge?

The venue was our biggest splurge, but it was worth every single penny due to its location and relaxed approach. They made it about us. We were the most important people on our wedding day, and that’s what it should be about. It was our venue, our day, our memories being made right there and then!

What was your favorite detail?

We had a singing waiter who fell flat on the floor with a full tray of cutlery just as we approached the dance floor for our first dance. Some guests rushed to his aid just as he broke into song. It was so funny to see the guests’ reaction! He sang for a full half hour, had everyone dancing and waving napkins – and he really set the scene!

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Being taken across fields by Tom from Altahammond Wedding Barn on a tractor-trailer to be met at the top of the field by Ursula, our photographer. She was surrounded by cows! I can still see the fear on her face to this day!

It was hilarious but her photographs were amazing. Ursula was then taken back down the hill on a quad bike. I can still hear her screaming for the driver to slow down! She really made our day.

Share any additional details you’d like us to know about your event!

Our wedding had been put off 3 times due to Covid restrictions. We contacted Altahammond Wedding Barn at short notice and were lucky to have the same date we wanted available. We contacted Ursula with only a weeks notice and our videographer had 2 days notice!

Everything fell into place after all the upset. Sandra and I after 35 years together were able to say “I do” and get our special day that we had always dreamed of.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Take 15 minutes to take it all in. Enjoy every minute and just go with the flow. This is your day, don’t forget that!
