How did you meet?

Believe it or not Matt and I met on Bumble. I gave it three shots and he was my third. He had recently moved to Houston from Birmingham and I was his first date!

What is your proposal story?

It’s pretty hard to surprise me, I pick up on every detail. We had just moved into our new home and a week later, on Matt’s Birthday, he proposed after opening his gifts. Talk about surprised! It speaks volumes to how selfless he is.

Tell us about your wedding vision.

We knew we didn’t necessarily want a big wedding, however, we wanted something memorable. We decided to elope, just us, somewhere we loved. I scoured wedding sites and decided I loved the styled elopement idea. We wanted to keep the intimacy while also having others feel like they got to experience the day right along with us through our pictures.

The Texas hill country was a no brainer for us. When I came across Lucky Arrow Retreat and saw that view I knew it was the spot! We wanted timeless and classy while also a bit boho and rustic. It all came together better than we could have imagined it!

Tell us about your attire choices.

We wanted classic meets boho. The scenery had so much texture and we didn’t want all the focus on the attire. We kept it understated and romantic.

What was most important to you two? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

The photographer was number one. I wanted Nikk and I wasn’t budging on that. Flowers were also important. I’d say those were the two “splurges”.

When you are renting items you are able to pick and choose based on budgets so that makes it easy. We skipped a cake and opted for cute little local pies in the shapes of our home states. It went along with our story and we loved how different it was!

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Our favorite memory of the day was definitely the weather. Austin had a tough week of weather and our wedding day was no exception. It poured the day of our wedding. Our coordinator and florist even had trouble getting to us through high water. A few hours before, the skies cleared and the sun came out just in time for the most picture-perfect ceremony and sunset. We still can’t believe it! Everything was beautiful!

Tell us about your wedding cake.

We opted for tiny pies!

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

The most beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen. They were wild yet elegant. I wanted dusty mauves and lighter colors throughout. I loved them so much I even had them preserved!

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

I wore my great grandmother’s wedding bands on my right hand as I do every day!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Our advice to couples in the planning stages would be to make sure you plan what you both want in a wedding. Big or small all that matters is the two of you. Pick one or two items you want to splurge on and let everything else come together afterward.

We will say if you can budget it in, hire a coordinator. They take all the pressure off and handle communications and setups. It’s worth the extra cost!
