What is your proposal story?

2 of our friends, Nichole, and I went to the Light the Knights Christmas Festival at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. When we got to the Christmas Tree displays to take pictures, I got down on one knee and proposed!

Tell us a little bit about your wedding.

Our vision and style were casual elegance. Our colors were pale blue and lavender. The ceremony was held under a beautiful oak tree, and the reception was on property in a huge, open-air event space.

Tell us about your attire choices.

The wedding party attire was pretty typical for a wedding. Light grey suits with accent ties for the groomsmen; the bridesmaids wore pale blue and lavender dresses.

What was most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

The most important thing to both of us was that our guests had fun. We wanted it to have a casual, fun feeling. We splurged on the best photographers and videographer.

We also decided to hire a beer, wine, and bourbon company that brought a super cute trailer set-up and poured all the drinks!

What were your favorite parts of the day?

We both agree that our favorite parts were first touch, walking down the aisle together, and Drew sharing vows with his step-daughter Blakely.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

My sister actually made the cake and the other desserts that we had at the wedding! It was a three-tier marble cake, with vanilla buttercream frosting and a custom cake topper.

What did you do for favors?

Favors are overrated in our opinion, so we didn’t really do them. However, every guest did receive a light-up wand to use during our exit and we had custom plastic cups made too!

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?

We made and designed some signs and tabletop menus. A family member made special wrappers for candies with our names and wedding date on it.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Drew wore pins inside his lapel with pictures of his grandparents. We also had a table with photos of our loved ones that had passed prior to wedding day.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

It will cost more than you plan, but it’s worth it.

TAKE IT ALL IN. It goes by super fast. Take a moment, and just observe.
