How did you meet?

We went to the same gym and Josh would always make sure he ended up on a machine next to me. After a couple months of seeing each other in passing at the gym, a mutual friend had a party we were both at. We started talking and exchanged phone numbers and Josh asked me on a date the next day.

What is your proposal story?

We were in Ketchikan, Alaska on a hike in the rainforest. We came to a spot where two rivers ran into one. Josh stopped there and told me the rivers reminded him of us and then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. And of course, I said yes!!

Tell us about your wedding vision.

I really wanted a small outdoor wedding. Fall is my favorite time of year because of the beautiful colors. We decided to do it at Long Hunter State Park because there were lots of trees and a beautiful lake. The spot was very intimate too which was great for us.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I wore a mermaid style dress that was pretty simple with a sash around the waist. It was an outside wedding so I thought simple would go best. Josh wore a black suit with a tan vest that matched the groomsmen’s vest. We wanted a casual feel so the groomsmen just wore the vests over white shirts with black pant and a burgundy tie that matched the bridesmaids’ dresses. The bridesmaids all had the same dresses they all agreed they liked the uniform look. They all also preferred long dresses which made it easy. I wanted burgundy but let my sister and maid of honor choose the style. I wanted them in something they felt comfortable in.

What was the most important to you two while planning? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

Pictures were important!! That’s where we put the biggest part of our budget. The pictures will be there forever so they were our big splurge. We did skip having a DJ or band and just had some speakers and a playlist made by Josh’s brother-in-law because we like having music but aren’t big dancers.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Marrying my best friend!! Truly that was the best part. When we said our vows neither of us could stop smiling or crying it was like we were the only two people in the world.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

We did them ourselves. Really it was mostly my amazing creative sister!

Tell us about your wedding cake.

The cake stand was awesome it was like a tree with different tiers. We were mostly after the taste for the cake so we did nothing bundt cake because it’s so good! We also did a simple topper from Whole Foods.

What did you do for favors?

We did personalized Koozies which turned out great!

Describe any DIY, personal, or handmade details.

All of the table decorations were done by my mom and mother-in-law. We also set up straw bales with burlap for seating. And my dad set up and decorated the arch we got married under.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Don’t stress too much it will all come together and at the end of the day, the most important thing is you’ll be married to your best friend!
