What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
The song choices! It was all Disney and Lala Land inspired.
Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?
Yes!
Confetti: I went to a party shop, and instead of expensive confetti, bought an appetizer holder which was shaped like a boat, and also dried flower petals! It cost me $5 in total for everyone.
Wedding Vow Book: I used a Muji ink pen and thick paper and drew “his and her vows”. Keep things minimalistic, it will turn out rustic in itself.
Wedding program: designed it myself, and went to a staples/office work shop to print. It only cost $4!
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
Using personal connections!!
Wedding dress: It was free because I worked for a photographer as a model before and so he agreed to lend any of his wedding dresses for free and there were heaps!
Hair: I was fortunate enough to have worked on set with this hairstylist and we became friends, I offered to pay but she was so generous to offer to bless me with my wedding hair.
Location: We wanted an indoor location for winter, but the places were either too big or too expensive. Resort to government-provided facilities! They are extraordinarily generous or most often free if it was outdoors.
Online viewings via Lovecast. These guys turned the situation around for us! Our families and friends are all from different parts (USA, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.), but we managed to have the presence and love of so much, and it didn’t cost anything.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Everything will work out in its timing. There were a lot of different hiccups, like the week of my bridesmaid and some guests were stuck in another state that had a lockdown. But the important thing I learned was the day is for you and your partner, and if you focus on that every little thing doesn’t seem to take hold of you.
What was your biggest splurge?
The event decor!! Like I had to, you can work with any space, but focus on the decor, that makes the finish!
What was your favorite detail?
The coordination of autumn colors.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
Just how easy it was, and stress-free. Honestly, I just felt so so happy the whole day and excited. It was very light-hearted because we chose to focus on the union rather than the event.
