How many guests did you have?

175 guests!

How did you meet?

We met in high school, summer 2009 – at a football hall of fame event. Later that night we were texting each other to set up a date.

What is your proposal story?

We traveled to Italy summer 2017 – It was always at the top of our bucket list. We were afraid if we don’t travel now, we may miss some life experiences.

We started the trip in Rome, but the proposal didn’t happen until 3 days later on the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento, Italy). It was the cutest little town overlooking the Mediterranean sea. We ate some really good pizza with a glass of wine. We finished dinner and I suggested we should go watch the sunset because I was just thinking it would be really pretty. Joey had other plans. We walked up and down this cliff being goofy, and finally found a place to sit. I got out my phone and started taking some pictures of the sun setting over the sea… next thing I knew Joe was down on one knee asking to marry me!

I was hoping he would maybe propose during our trip to Italy but that moment still surprised me like no other. I started crying and said YES! It was one of the happiest moments we ever shared together just us two.

Tell us about your wedding vision.

My main vision for the day was just to have fun, make it the least stressful it could be, while being simple and pretty.

As we started planning my initial vision totally changed.  I never thought I was a bride that would want a “Barn/ Rustic wedding” but after I stepped in Peacock Ridge I couldn’t get over that natural beauty it had in its self! The outside ceremony location was perfect!

I never had “colors” for the wedding, but I wanted light colored summer vibes!

Tell us about your attire choices.

My first thought about attire was finding things that would be “cool” since it would be the middle of summer and likely humid. (It ended up being PERFECT cool weather).

I had no vision when looking for my dress. When I tried on the dress that I ended up getting, I instantly smiled. It was perfect, it was me. The dress was pure white and felt like a nightgown, it was so soft and comfy. At first, I didn’t want to get it because it was the first place we went to. But with every dress, I tried on after I said “This isn’t as white as that one dress” or “this dress is uncomfortable”. When I started saying that I knew that white dress was meant to be mine! I am a pretty simple gal & this dress just showed it!

Keeping the light airy cool colors in mind, I wanted the groom and groomsmen in light grey! Bridesmaids dresses were floral pastel colors – light pink, white, light purple, light blues, different and cute! The groom ended up getting a floral tie to match with the floral theme of the bridesmaids!

What was most important to you two while planning? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

We splurged on our photographer 🙂 Obviously best decision we could have made. Not only did we have amazing pictures, but we also had our whole album in 6 days!!!!!

Another important thing to us was saying our vows out loud during the ceremony. It meant a lot to share between us two and for friends and family to know how much this marriage means.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

THE WHOLE DAY!!!

Our favorite part was the ceremony! Marrying each other meant so much.

Other fun memories:
Our first dance! We created our own fun dance to “Love Never Felt So Good” by Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake. We messed up a little but it was so fun.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

Simple – white roses and tulips with some greenery. I honestly did not make flowers a big fuss. Not a big flower girl and wanted to not spend a lot.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Simple 3 tier white cake. Chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet.  Our florist put some flowers on the top to make it look pretty. We also had ice cream sundaes!

What did you do for favors?

We had a candy station with goodie bags to take home and made DIY bags with our names and “Love is Sweet” on them.

Please describe any handmade, personal or DIY details.

One of my bridesmaids Emily Martin is a graphic designer and she made my invitations/ programs! This was so special to me!

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

I carried my grandmother’s handkerchief in my flowers just like my mother did.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding now?

Enjoy the time planning together, and yes, do it TOGETHER. It’s fun including each other.

Also, try to make the day as stress-free as possible. Sometimes it is worth the extra money to have someone else take care of things for you! 🙂 This day only happens once and it’s not worth worrying or stressing about.
