Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day?

Our wedding was mainly DIY. My husband and I financed our wedding by ourselves, so we needed to find ways not only to have the wedding that we wanted but also to have it as cheap as possible without it looking cheap. If I had to pick a theme, it would’ve been “bows”. Our wedding had a mix of Christianity traditions and vows, and also our own spin on it.

Let’s talk wedding decor. Was any part of the decor DIY?

The venue that we chose was already beautiful by itself! We made our own centerpieces and had a friend arrange our bouquets. We also got to borrow a lot of decorations from a wedding we had already worked at.

My friend did a really good job arranging our flowers. They looked so real! She added a burlap flower to the front of all of the bouquets. All of our flowers came from Amazon; it turned out it would be cheaper doing that than buying real ones.

What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

Melissa was so great at capturing our wedding in a way that during the ceremony, no one noticed her. She handled our family and friends very well because she knew we wanted to be apart of the fun too so she was able to get the pictures done in a very efficient time frame.

Our DJs were everything we wanted for our wedding. There wasn’t a time that there weren’t people on the dance floor, and that was all I wanted! The DJs brought a photo booth which was a really nice touch. The guests were even able to take the photos home with them!

How did you both choose your wedding day look?

I got a discount when I went to a Wedding Expo. We drove out to Bel Air and I tried on 20 dresses from the sale rack.

When we went in to get his suit, we had to decide what shade of grey we wanted and what kind of material. We went with a lighter grey suit since he already had a dark grey and a black suit. We wanted to keep it special!

Tell us about the proposal.

Aaron and I went on an awesome trip to Jamaica with a few of his friends. On the first day, we were walking around the resort and came across this small beautiful beach with the perfect sunset. On the 4th day, Aaron’s friend Mike wanted to get his family pictures at that same small beach. Aaron and I went to the beach for what I thought was checking the lighting for the photos. All of a sudden, Aaron looked at me and said, “We aren’t just here to take pictures”. I was so confused! He then got down on one knee – and the rest of the trip, I couldn’t stop looking at him or my heart shaped ring!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

I think the best moment was taking pictures with him even though we couldn’t see each other! Another was seeing my husband for the first time as I walked down the aisle to a song I chose to surprise him with.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Enjoy everything! The special day really does fly right by. Be present, don’t worry about the decoration that didn’t make it out of the box or the cupcakes not being laid out like you thought. No one will notice (and frankly, they probably won’t care).
