How did you meet?

We both worked for so many years in the Aviation Industry, but we met during an interview ( he was interviewing me). The moment I entered his office it was love at first sight!

What is your proposal story?

My husband hunts for a hobby and has a cabin in Pennsylvania. The first time he took me to visit I was so much in love with the mountains, animals, weather, it was just so perfect. A year later we went back and the second day he asked me to drive around and look for Elk. ( my favorite animal since I first saw it a year prior).

We drove around the mountain he parked his truck, set up his camera and said; stand right there so I can adjust the camera to take our pictures. We saw an Elk far away, and I just stood there. He looked me in the eyes, went down on his knee and said I was the woman of his dreams and he couldn’t continue his life without me.

Tell us about your wedding vision.

We are both very private people. We don’t have many friends but the ones we have are for life. We decided to buy a house and have our wedding in the backyard. The majority of the cost of our wedding went to painting our deck, which accounts for the $5k of miscellaneous expenses in the below budget breakdown..

We love dark colors so we chose navy, gold, and white. Our vision was to share a little piece of us with our guests, combining unique ideas and personal touches in almost everything.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I was looking for a dress that very classy and elegant and didn’t want anything too big or puffy.

The groom went with the traditional wedding suit with touches of gold to match the wedding colors and my pearls.

What was most important to you two? Was there anything you chose to splurge on or skip?

Decorations and food were the most important to us while planning.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Well at the house it was crazy with all the last minute details, food arriving, family, etc.

My favorites part was being at the salon with the mothers and my best friends getting ready for our special day. We had champagne, talked and laughed, it was a great and memorable time. Having my mom getting ready with me was priceless.

For him, the moment he saw me walking towards him was the most special.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

We decided to go with the artificial flowers for the centerpieces and purchased real flower arrangements for the columns, bouquets, and corsage.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

The wedding cake … we visited 3 bakeries in total. The first two treated us very poorly and I felt it was because of the size of the cake (for 40 people).

We founded a bakery very near to our house and while visiting and having the tasting we made our decision. I was looking for a navy and gold cake and he wanted a plain white cake, but while he was at work I told the bakery to go ahead and make the cake exactly how I wanted.

What did you do for favors?

For favors, it was a lot of planning but my mother-in-law helped me from the beginning.

We had a navy and gold bag with Swarovski pens. We also had personalized gold and navy M&M’s made, as well as a beautiful box for the chocolates that was marble with a gold bow. Very elegant and useful!

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

I made all the centerpieces with glass, glass stones, artificial white flowers and one navy flower in the middle.

Since he proposed I started collecting bottles of wine and champagne. I painted them mat black and wrapped lights around. Every decoration was made by me and by hand.

At the entrance of our wedding, we had a navy blue mirror with a gold decal welcoming the guests to our home. I painted an old mirror with spray paint.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

We had a table specially made for the loved ones that are no longer with us.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Yes, take your time and don’t overwhelm yourselves with what others will think. You two focus on yourselves and make the best of it.
I really wanted to have a wedding to remember and we made it happen. We listened to each other and what we both liked. Compromising with each other on every decision.
