How many guests did you have?
We had 88 guests.
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We added a southern twang/flair. We incorporated fleur de lis throughout the whole wedding. We incorporated how we met—at Relay 4 Life. We honored the death of our loved ones.
Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?
We created the seating chart, seating cards, and bridal bouquets by ourselves.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
We just did research on each task, location, photobooths, music… We figured out what we needed or wanted, and what we could compromise on.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Really think about what will make you happy. It is your day, but it is for everyone else and you don’t want to go overboard and regret in the morning. You are not marrying the wedding day; you are marrying your partner, so treasure that thought. If something goes awry, it’s okay. I can almost guarantee that no one will remember.
What was your biggest splurge?
I think just having the wedding was our biggest splurge… haha. I could have gone with a different dress that was cheaper and that didn’t need alterations, but I felt very comfortable and beautiful in the dress that I chose.
What was your favorite detail?
Everything!! I think my absolutely favorite deal was spiritually having my grandmother there. She loved Monty and couldn’t wait for us to get married. We were very close, and I tried to do what I can to have the wedding before she passed, but ultimately, the disease was stronger. I wanted her to be there, so we had a photo of her at the reception, she had her own spot at the table, I had a locket with her picture on it around my bouquet, and I wore a ring that she passed down from her grandmother. Even one of the desserts was a kind of cake that she used to make that NO ONE can replicate!!
In reality though, I loved it all. We really researched the cake topper and matched ribbon to the cake topper. We had fleur de lis cupcake toppers, cake topper, napkins, seating card holders, and a wax seal that sealed all the envelope party favors.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?
