How did you meet?

We met at the church where my father has pastored for 3 years now. He held my hand in a circle of prayer one Sunday night and he said he knew then he was going to marry me. That was the first day we had ever spoken to each other.

What is your proposal story?

He called me one day wanting to find a spot to take pictures in our hometown. He had hired a photographer (Jyn Allen Photography) to take couples pictures of us. I suggested a local church that had a pretty field behind it and while we were taking pictures he went to back to the truck to get his guitar and a blanket so we could sit on it. He also got the ring from his truck where he had been hiding it for two weeks from me. The photographer was of course in on it and she had me turn around as part of a pose, then when I turned back around he was down on one knee and he popped the question!

Tell us about your wedding vision.

All I could think was lots of warm lights and warm fall colors. I had visions of pumpkins and gold in my head the whole time.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I wanted everyone in a different look because I know everyone does not look good in the same thing, so I had my bridesmaids and my groomsmen pick out their own looks. I told them to keep it in the neutral color group so it would have some coordination.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

Photography and my wedding dress are where I didn’t skip the expense. I knew if I didn’t feel beautiful then my pictures weren’t going to be beautiful, so I made sure to get the dress and veil I really wanted. We knew the pictures would last a lifetime so we didn’t skip on a photographer either. Wedding favors are not a necessity and no one misses them so I would say skip that all together.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

My favorite part was honestly the ceremony. I wrote our vows and it was some precious moments shared. Also, my new husband sang to me at the end of our reception which was really a sweet moment. He sang a song he played for me on the Sunday we met.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

I didn’t have many flowers but used mostly fall leaves for my foliage. I didn’t like the look of fall flowers and flowers weren’t really in my budget.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

We chose to use cupcakes for our guests and we cut a small cake that was just for us. Both were pumpkin flavored with cream cheese icing and we got many compliments on how good they were.

Describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

Trevor handmade our ring box that our ring bearer carried down the aisle. It had our initials carved in a heart on the front with the date. It looked like we had carved it on a tree. I made a lot of decorations, including a game of ring toss using different sized bottles that were spray painted. I made signs that were carried down the aisle. Also, I spray painted the leaves the flower girl carried down the aisle and I made our backdrop for the ceremony, which was different sized frames hanging at various heights.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

For my something borrowed, something old, and something blue I sewed a pocket of my grandfather’s shirt that was also passed to my uncle when he got cancer as well. They are both recently passed and it was nice to honor them.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Don’t sweat the details and make sure you don’t have regrets. You want that day to be full of happy memories, so find a way to make whatever you really want, happen.
